The Amalfi peninsula has many hiking trails and we used local maps available everywhere in Ravello, our amazing hilltop location for about 4 days. This trail gradually descends from Ravello past "vehicle-free" hamlets, a church, fragrant trees and quaint stone-built villages, each with a tiny plaza and ever-present public fountain. One such spot about half-way down had a small refreshment shop. Lots of stairs downhill, windy trail with breath-taking views of the Sea and eventually the town of Amalfi comes into view. You enter the town past an ancient paper-making shop that is fascinating. Amalfi is a gem, and from here, the public bus ride back up to Ravello is a fun experience unto itself!
