My girlfriend and I were very excited about coming here and enjoying life on Elba. However, the owner of the hotel managed to ruin our enjoyment. She was rude, unhelpful and miserable. We discovered through experience that to make the most of Elba (if you stay in this part of the island) you need to either: get to know the bus timetable (which was very confusing to a foreigner); hire a scooter; or hire a car. She made no effort in explaining the buses to us (despite us standing outside the hotel for nearly an hour on a few occasions), and then didn't help us hire a car on a bank holiday, which, thanks to the language barrier, meant that we lost out on the last availalbe car on the entire island! (No joke.) My advice to her, if she ever reads this, is to make an effort if she ever wants to get good feedback. You are in the hospitality industry, you know! Do you know what that means? Another blight was her beach recommendation. Elba is a stunning place. Why she suggested we go to the most ugly, disgusting beach imaginable is quite beyond me. (And we had to hitchhike there as there were no buses...) We took one look, promptly turned away and walked (a very long way) to another one, which was marginally better. I have pictures if anyone wants to be amused. Finally, (although I could go on and on) when I requested use of her laptop (there was no communal one) she rolled her eyes as if to say: "What, you again. Leave me alone!". I repeat: do you know what hospitality means? Also a word on the (cramped) room itself. No TV or hairdryer (I guess the TV you can understand) or space to fully open your suitcase; and when you had a shower (which was fine actually) your bedroom floor got totally soaked. Nice. Don't come here. Get a 3-star hotel instead in Porto Arurro (a beautiful, bustly place not far away...) for pennies more, right on the harbour - we checked prices as we were so disappointed with Hotel Etrusco! Rio Marina is quiet and dull. And this hotel simply sucks in many practical ways. We found ourself walking home from a restaurant at 9pm-ish (ie, not late) in the pitch black on a pretty busy road. This place offers nothing to anyone who wants to see the stunning Elba island.
