There are so many good reviews on the Hotel Tirrenia that adding another is probably not going to help you make up your mind. You should already have realised this many people can't be wrong.
We always read the reviews and whilst some people can be quite picky you generally know what you are going to get. The review by youngrandad is worth printing out - it makes travelling to Viareggio so easy from Pisa (we still had to double check when we came out to be sure where the bus left from but it is literally straight ahead - not slightly to the right)
Bus ride is quick and easy about 45 mins and lookout for the leaning tower on the way as you go through Pisa.
We booked 3 nights at the Tirrenia and the last night in Pisa (that 7.30 am flight back to B'ham would tough to get up for so better to stay in Pisa).
We were met by Lucca's father at the door and he is a real gent - every time we met we talked and he was always so happy to help, tickets for thebeach, beach towels and bag, showed us where the supermarket was (put an Asti Spumanti in the fridge for when you come off the beach and before you 'Promanade'!)
Hotel was in our opinion excellent -
Location is perfect
Room is clean and spacious
Breakfast is everything you need to start the day
All the family are helpful
Free internet to keep in touch
Viarregio
Weather was superb 28-30 deg every day
Beach was not overcrowded (get a €2 discount ticket for the deckchairs/parasol then its €16/day €13 after 3pm)
Note - watch the road - zebra crossings are totally ignored
Evenings are lovely to 'promanade with the locals (typically its an Italian resort with Italian shops - so good quality and not so cheap)
Restaurants are reasonable €6.50 for a spag bol
Lovely to walk the whole length of the beach with the waves lapping at your feet with the veiws of the Apuan Alps on the horizon.
The shops in the Town Centre are also worth checking out - lots of good shops here too.
'Understated' police presence around - shifting the 'steet' traders
Overall the trip was superb and we are already planning a return. I suspect the Italians have been keeping this place a secret - the last thing they want is other European tourists ruining their lovely resort - I almost didn't write this review!
If you are looking for nightclubs, parties and beaches to yourself then this is not the resort for you.
If you like evening walks, good priced wine and Italian food on the front, good beach and swimming, lovely weather, good shops and not many 'brits' then you wont find many places better.
There may be other hotels around but in the Tirrenia your guarenteed the service and facilities to match the resort.
