We found this pub by seaching for walks in the South Downs, and it turned out to be absolutely perfect. It is a traditional pub in a quite village which has been sensitively updated, bringing style and comfort without lossing the essential qualities of a good country pub. The pub itself has all the usual features of low ceilings, sold wood furniture etc and a really good selection of beers, wines and spirits. The wines in particular were well chosen, and reasonably priced. The food was again, spot on. An interesting menu with plenty of choice, really well cooked, with fresh salads beautifully dressed. The whole experience was enhanced by friendly, efficient service.
The pub has three rooms in the stable block which were clean, and well furnished, albeit quite small. The appeared to have been recently refurbished, with powerful showers and lovely toiletries.
There are plenty of walks around and on the South Downs Way straight from the pub.
All in all a wonderful surpise - the traditional suroundings of an English pub with the style and homeliness of a good country hotel.
