We spent 10 nights at the Regina and the previous reviews give accurate representation, so I can only really confirm them. We had a nice big room on the 2nd floor with loads of wardrobe space and a lovely bathroom. All of the rooms have superb views to the Citadel, over the bay and the mountains beyond. The 12 EU breakfast didn't look anything special so hubby went hunting/gathering at the local SuperU with its fab in-store bakery and we dined on the balcony. The pool was surrounded by some pretty flower boxes and most days we had the place to ourselves. During the day it was occasionally a little noisy with traffic and building works nearby but no issues at night. A couple of mins walk takes you to Calvi centre although ladies be warned....if you're a high-heel wearer like me, the pavements are a nightmare!
We really didn't want to hire a car when in Corsica and Calvi was a great place to stay without the need for one as there is so much to do. We trekked the the mountain trails, hired bikes and cycled out to the lighthouse (take plenty of water) and took the train to Ille Rousse. At the end of the day, there were numerous bars and restaurants to relax in around the pretty marina.
I definitely recommend the Hotel Regina which whilst you couldn't describe as 'charming', is spacious, comfortable and very clean. A good base for staying in Calvi or as a base for exploring Northern Corsica - you can't really go wrong here.
