What can I say... we absolutely LOVED Club Med Tignes. I could not fault it. It was our first Club Med experience and it far exceeded our expectations. It was also my first time skiing in Europe so that was fantastic in itself, although it didn't stop snowing the whole week which meant most lifts were closed the last two days. We didn't mind too much as we explored the village and caught the free shuttle bus to Le Luc village to explore and shop.
Reception- we arrived at 1am by private transfer from Geneva airport (it takes 2.5 hours). That is not a problem as reception is open 24 hours a day. It did mean however that we didn't have our skis organised and missed the first morning skiing, which is where they 'test' you to see what level you are in and which instructor to put you with. In the 'afternoon' session skiing (1.45-4pm), we told the director of the ski school our ability and he put us in the right group.
Just a few words of advice... kids have to be at the Mini club at 8.45am so they go out to ski, and adults have to be outside with their instructor at 9.15am to be ready to ski, or they go without you and you are on your own. We missed the ski rental service on monday morning but they so kindly opened for us so we could be ready for 1.45pm skiing. I also needed an adaptor for my electrical items and Cynthia at reception lent me her personal one for the whole week!
Room- I am sooo glad I spent the extra money and got a room with mountain view! I could have had two rooms for the same price with no view, but we didn't really need two rooms as the children wanted to be in with us anyway. The room was an adequate size for 4 of us and great storage areas for our 5 suitcases full of stuff! It was a typical size of a ski resort room.(see photos)
Kids Club- My children were in mini club (ages 4-11) which is divided into two areas- 4-7 and 8+. My kids LOVED kids club. They went at 8.45am and we picked them up at 5pm, for crepes in the lounge, swim in the indoor pool and shower for dinner. We returned them at 7pm so they could have dinner and see a kids show whilst we had dinner, and picked them up at 9pm Now THAT'S a holiday! The staff in kids club are absolutely amazing. So friendly and caring.
Facilities - The lounge was beautiful; large with fireplaces, a bar, stage, dancefloor, tea and coffee facilities, free internet wi-fi, ping pong tables after skiing, live music etc etc . There was an indoor pool which was JUST warm enough , and a spa service with massages etc (which i didn't use) but friendly staff. There was a show every night for the adults at 9.30pm which I only saw once as we had young children, but what we saw was great for staff performances. Then the stage and bar area turned into a disco. Considering most alcohol is included, it made for some very entertaining nights!! There was also a laundry on the top floor. The staff didn't know and tried to sell you washing powder but it is already in the machine so save your money!
Food- we found the food amazing! Breakfast , lunch and dinner were all fantastic. There was always a number of chefs at stations plating up food fresh, whilst some things were cooked out the back and in brought out. The variety and quality was exceptional. We would normally ski through lunch but after the first day we realised what we were missing and came in for the Raclette without fail.... melted cheese on potato with pickles (see photo)! Even after coming in from skiing before you reached the door of the hotel, they have set up a table with food and hot wine with music blaring ... my kind of skiing! (see photo)
Value- we thought the holiday was fantastic value for money. We got the whole holiday for the cost of what we would pay for accommodation only in Australia! And everything is included except for top shelf alcohol and ski equipment hire (which was standard price). BUT, we did go in the third week of the season when it is still fairly cheap. I did check prices for the week after and it was nearly 50% more. Also, when I booked from Australia I was told that the only 'transport' available was from Paris. I asked several different operators at Club Med, both in Australia and in the USA, and they told me the same thing. When we were there however, other guests told me that they were picked up from Geneva airport by Club Med. Next time I will insist for this option as we paid 500 euros for private transfers ( by an excellent company called CoolBus).
I also can't praise the staff enough.Friendly, caring, excellent service. Can't wait to go back...!
