“Much better than expected”

Ambassador Hotel

There are no hotels above three star in Brig to my knowledge and as such I was fearing a very poor experience. As it turned out the Ambassador was fine - all the staff were really helpful - particularly in the restaurant, which for some strange reason is hardly advertised at all in the hotel. We had to check it was open but when we ate there we were very pleased with the food and and the service.
Our hotel room was clean and adequate but could have done with a little modernisation but we were very comfortble and had no complaints. The hotels situation is also very convenient being in a quiet part of town (unlike the Victoria) but still only a few hundred yards away from the station and easily walkable, even with cases.
All in all a good and reasonable experience and we would certainly repeat if we went back to Brig again.

Upon arriving by train after dark we had a little trouble figuring out which way to walk but then we saw a sign and were on our way. We were supposed to arrive after 10p and so I was worried that we would be locked out after reading the review that mentioned the doors being locked after 9p. I had received an email stating that they would indeed wait up for us but I still worried because I knew there weren't many hotels around. Well, they did wait and it was great. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful. He got all fired up when I asked him about where to buy a bottle of water. He convinced me to drink out of the faucet, which I don't do in the States because I hate any chemical taste, and he was right! The water was absolutely perfect. He let me borrow a power converter (which he has a whole drawer full of different types) but he let me know that he would charge me if I didn't bring it back. They also told me when the train to Zermatt was leaving. Our room was very clean and bed comfortable and the bathroom was clean but decor outdated, which I don't care about. The breakfast was plentiful and good. The nearby Migros supermarket closes at 630p I believe (as the supermarkets do throughout Switzerland) so beware. We actually used this hotel as a base to go to Zermatt because Zermatt was expensive (the inexpensive properties were booked solid) and then to start the Glacier Express the following day (we started from Brig rather than Zermatt, which is possible). The whole area is amazingly beautiful!

The wife, young son (10 months) and I based ourselves in this hotel for a few nights for an end of year break. We took the junior suite which was spacious, had a pretty modern design (really nice shower room) and was very clean and comfortable.

The staff and proprietor were extremely friendly and helpful.

Brig itself doesn't have much to offer but is a good enough place to base yourself for exploring the area for a couple of days.

“Not my first choice in Brig”

I stayed at this hotel with my wife for one night in May 2006. We found the hotel adequate, but unexiting. The rate was 74 euro for a double room with breakfast.
The location isn't the best - about 5 mins of walking from the centre of the town, but Brig is so small, that it feels like far away. The hotel is not far from the railway station (3 mins walking), though.
Our room was on the small side and the bathroom was also quite small, but everything was clean. It was quiet at night and we didn't hear other guests (except when they were enetering their rooms).
The staff was indifferent but efficient. The breakfast was normal for a 3 star hotel in Switzerland (cheese, several sorts of cold meats, muesli, yougurt, canned fruits). The selection of bread was good, but there were no fresh fruits.
We probably would not stay in this hotel again, since we discovered that there are better options in Brig. Ambassador did not have availability for the second night, so we moved to hotel de Londres on the Brig's central square and liked it much more.

“Decent for a stop-over”

The hotel is decent for a one or two night stopover, but that would be about it. It's just 5 minutes from the train station and the "downtown" area of Brig, and is on a quiet side street. Breakfast was ample and the room was of decent size. The bathroom and shower were a bit small, but they served the purpose. The staff is very friendly and helpful with their recommendations.
