I visited Green Olive in January 2012 with three friends as part of a wedding celebration. My two friends who had just been married had visited Green Olive previously and were really impressed with the magnificent views, the light food on offer and the special arrangements that the manager, Greg, had offered them for their wedding.
My friends were promised an exclusive area next to the lake under an oak tree where the wedding party would be separated from other diners and an order was taken for 4 platters of various antipasti and light dishes, and some bottles of wine. We were then going to have a wine tasting.
My friends informed Greg (the manager) that this would all be paid for a few days in advance and Greg was happy with this. They tried to contact him to pay over the phone but either could not get through to him or were told he was unable to take their money as he was out at the time. After several attempts to pay, Greg told them it would be fine to pay on the day.
When we arrived we were traipsed through the cafeteria like cattle, with my friend in her beautiful wedding dress mortified as people were staring and taking pictures. When we were seated, it was a few yards away from the other diners in the plants next to some fertiliser on a 45 degree angle. The angle was so severe that when water glasses were placed on the table they literally slid off it. The exclusive area next to the lake that they were originally promised was fenced off electrically and there were goats in our place.
We were then given menus and told there was a 45 minute wait on food, when we had already pre-arranged our order! When we complained to the waiter, he went to speak to Greg (who mysteriously refused to come out and speak to us himself) and the waiter explained that there was nothing specifically ordered for food. We asked to be moved to somewhere that wasn't diagonal and we were put in the middle of the lawn next to the cafe on a marginally better angle. However, we were then asked for a credit card as soon as we ordered to ensure payment, something none of the other customers were asked to do and which was insulting and humiliating.
When we ordered food we were told that there was a wait but we would be pushed to the top of the queue. We then proceeded to sit and watch as EVERYONE in the cafe was served before us. Even when we went inside to complain and the waiter held up some plates and said "This is your food, I'm bringing it out now"", these plates were still subsequently delivered to another table two minutes later.
No matter how much we complained or how upset the bride and groom became that their special day was being ruined by such humiliating treatment, the manager, Greg would only talk to us to say casually "So how's it going for you?" when he knew perfectly well that nothing was happening as had been promised.
Eventually the food never came so we cancelled all the food orders and left early to go onto our next plans. When the groom complained before we left he was told it was their fault because they had not paid although Greg had told the bride that it was fine to pay on the day as he had been impossible to get hold of.
I was astounded at the lack of service Green Olive provided and the utter indifference (and spitefulness) of Greg, the manager. It became laughable towards the end because not one thing that had been promised had been carried out and the impossible-to-sit-at-let-alone-eat-off table had been placed rather unsubtly next to some poo.
A lovely location, dire service and a childish, spiteful manager who says one thing and does another.
