When you stay out from the major cities, not knowing the language can be a challenge given that not everyone in Italy speaks English. So staying at Casa La Pace offered us the experience of the village and the people with the help of Rusty and Pepper as they both speak Italian fluently. This was particularly handy as our luggage did not make the flight with us. It was finally delivered to Casa La Pace two days later thanks the help of Pepper and his negotiating skills...in Italian.
Our other issue was a missed flight and landing in Pisa too late at night to catch a train and no room reserved there. Thanks to Rusty's willingness to drive the hour to pick us up, we were able to take advantage of the incredibly comfortable beds in the Nancy room at Casa La Pace. I'll always remember the first time I opened the window to the cool night air and the sound of the Serchio River below. The next morning there was the view of the old town of Ghivizzano on the hill top across the river and the activity of the neighbors working on their project in the courtyard below. Regardless of the lost luggage, our experience was beyond any expectations. With the help and hospitality of Rusty and Pepper, we had a fantastic time.
