Amerdale House Hotel is truly deserving of the glowing reviews here.
At the front-of-house, Caroline, Barry, Liese and Emily provide really friendly and relaxed, yet professional and unobtrusive service. It’s not really fair to highlight Barry, but as we saw the most of him, we were amazed by his constant enthusiasm, cheerfulness and ability to almost predict and provide what we wanted before we asked! He also has that rare quality of appearing to love his job and to actually like the guests!
Behind the scenes, Andy and his team in the kitchen provided really superb food. Preparation and presentation is lovingly carried out, sourcing the freshest and best quality ingredients. Our meals during our four night stay were amongst the most consistent and tasty we’ve ever come across. Only candles on the table at dinner could have improved the ambience.
There is an extensive cellar of around 55 quality wines, around a third of them under £20. Again, Barry came good on our last night and we ‘suspect’ the bottle was rather better than he let on!
We are not going to list any ‘dislikes’ and my view of the Hotel’s décor is largely irrelevant. However, other reviewers have commented on the curtains letting the side down a bit and the unusual choice of carpeting throughout the entire Hotel. Presently, it is less than nine months old and is fine, but Andy and Caroline must not let it look the slightest bit grubby as time goes by.
The weather during our stay was wet, cold and raw and despite the welcoming open fires, the heating in the public rooms only just managed to cope.
Our bedroom (Coverdale) was warm and cosy however – a very comfortable bed, super pillows and absolutely silent with nothing to disturb four excellent nights’ sleep. The small bath and electric shower are adequate, fluffy towels and Molton & Brown toiletries luxurious.
We unhesitatingly recommend Amerdale House Hotel and are sure their high standards will be maintained.
