We enjoyed our previous stay at Amerdale House twelve months ago and deciding we wanted to explore Littondale a little more we chose to book again this year.

The thing that strikes you about this Restaurant with Rooms is the peace and quiet. Our room, at the front of the building, gave us delightful views of the fields and dale.

The welcome was warm and our room was clean and equipped with a good bathroom (a large shower but no tub).

Amerdale's real strength is its food. It is proud of the fresh produce it grows, and the local meats etc. is sources. The Chef obviosuly realises with such good raw materials there is little to do to them save cook them with care and pay attention to presentation. Portions are generous and the mains are accompanied by further fresh vegetables and potatoes.

The wine list has a reasonable selection with a range of prices to suit most pockets. Particularly pleasing was the selection (albeit small) of half bottles.

The only small grumble is the piped music - not only is music not necessary the selection is totally out of keeping with the country house feel of the place.

Breakfast is also a star turn. Generous Yorkshire portions using the very best local ingredients all served piping hot.

Amerdale House is somewhere one can recommend with confidence.

A big 'thank you' to the team at Amerdale House for making the last 4 days so memorable. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed and cared for like never before. The attention to detail made such a difference i.e lighting the fire each afternoon at about 4pm just as we arrived back from the days walk. The food is every bit as good as I'd imagined it would be and all the reviews are a true reflection of what to expect. Chef Andy even shared 2 recipes with us that we particularly liked - tomato soup and cheese cake. We felt privileged that he took the time to do this. So if you get chance to visit this special place run by these special people then do it.

“Wonderful food, idyllic location”

Amerdale House Hotel

My wife and I have recently been to Amerdale house for an anniversary weekend. This is the first time we have stopped having dinned there previously. We found the staff to be very accommodating and in good spirits in particularly good form was Barry, who is ready with first-rate advice on both the food and wine front.

The food as always was excellent and cooked to perfection our compliment to Andy and his team their Sunday roast are unsurpassed.

Our room at the front of the hotel had an excellent view down dale, was very comfortable and superbly turned out providing a wonderful night sleep. In all we have had a first class break and look forward to visiting again soon either for the night or just a meal.
With Thanks James and Mas

Just returned from a nights stay in this fabulous hotel. My husband and I went for an anniversary meal and what a meal it was!
I have to say that the food was devine! Compliments all round to the Chef. Service was also second to none.
The location is my idea of paradise and even the appalling weather couldn't dampen our stay.
After a gentle but somewhat wet stroll in the rain a brandy and warm in front of the cosy log fire soon put a contented smile on my face.
The room was well appointed and very comfortable.
What more could one ask for than to have your breakfast egg laid for you on the morning of your stay by the obliging chickens at the bottom of the garden.
We will definateley return and hopefully soon.

Have just returned from a great few days at this lovely small hotel. The food was the real highlight, but in addition the staff were very attentive and the location excellent. They were also very accomodating of our 18 month old toddler who was fasinated by the chickens! Would recommend a stay to anyone who enjoys fresh air and fine food!
