We enjoyed our previous stay at Amerdale House twelve months ago and deciding we wanted to explore Littondale a little more we chose to book again this year.
The thing that strikes you about this Restaurant with Rooms is the peace and quiet. Our room, at the front of the building, gave us delightful views of the fields and dale.
The welcome was warm and our room was clean and equipped with a good bathroom (a large shower but no tub).
Amerdale's real strength is its food. It is proud of the fresh produce it grows, and the local meats etc. is sources. The Chef obviosuly realises with such good raw materials there is little to do to them save cook them with care and pay attention to presentation. Portions are generous and the mains are accompanied by further fresh vegetables and potatoes.
The wine list has a reasonable selection with a range of prices to suit most pockets. Particularly pleasing was the selection (albeit small) of half bottles.
The only small grumble is the piped music - not only is music not necessary the selection is totally out of keeping with the country house feel of the place.
Breakfast is also a star turn. Generous Yorkshire portions using the very best local ingredients all served piping hot.
Amerdale House is somewhere one can recommend with confidence.
