“Amazing 5 Star food and service! A little gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

Yr Hen Dafarn, or Big Bills as its called in the village, really is a find!
A fantastic restaurant with amazing food. Fresh seafood, amazing game and beautiful home cooking. Its such a treat. Every time we go down to wales, its on our must go list. We always book a table and have never been dissapointed. They allow children and veggies etc... leave room for desert as they are gorgeous.

“A memorable meal”

This restaurant is only open on Friday and Saturday evenings and tables have to be booked in advance. Credit cards are not accepted.
We arrived at 6.30 on the dot which was the time we had booked and were told that we had arrived before the "help". This was hardly welcoming even if said in jest. We were directed to a corner to study the menu. It was very uncomfortable as it was so cramped. My son who has a degenerative condition couldn't have got round the table so had to rest his drink on a table already laid for dinner.
All was well however when we were moved into the dining room. As we hadn't ordered "starters" in an attempt to reach the dessert we were served with some nice bread and a simple salad which was delicious. The three of us had ordered beef daube in the burgandy manner with mini cottage pies. The meat was very tender and delicious but I didn't think the dish needed the added cream. I would have enjoyed having the little onions that are usually served with Boeuf Bourgogne in France. I enjoyed the creamed swede (I think) The other vegetables were plain but cooked to perfection. However I felt they added nothing to the meal and would have preferred some creamy mashed potatoes to soak up the delicious gravy. I used the top of the mini cottage pie for this. I felt that I had enough meat to eat without this little pie. For dessert I chose fresh fruit meringue which was delicious but I wasn't expecting such a large serving of meringue and cream with the fresh fruit. I know I could have left some but as a child during the war I was taught to clean my plate and old habits die hard! The others enjoyed chocolate fudge cake, again served with cream. At the end of the meal I felt I had eaten far too much. There was no espresso coffee which I felt would have calmed down my stomach so we just went for a walk on the green.
People who have large appetites will be in their element here but those with smaller appetites should fast before visiting this restaurant to enable them to do justice to the wonderful food!

“A Great Evening”

A great welcome when you enter, Bill and Judith are great hosts and can't do enough for you. The food was excellent and plentiful. . Refreshing to have the owner who is also the chef chatting to guests and checking that everything's ok at all times. The menu is so good that it's difficult to choose which to go for so will have to visit again soon so that we can try the other dishes on the menu. Thank you for a lovely evening : )

“Fab find in a gorgeous part of Wales”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2009

A friend and I were here at the end of May - Bank Holiday weekend, and the friendly welcome at this village restaurant was great. We started off with wine in the small but perfectly comfortable garden, then when our dinner was ready went into the bustling restaurant. Our steaks were fantastic but the largest we had EVER seen! Great meal, great atmosphere, great service. Definately recommended but check opening times and booking is essential.

“Good value fresh locally produced quality food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2009

This has to be the best place to dine in carmarthenshire. Fantastic food all locally produced either from the river Towy which is only a mile away or fresh game caught locally. Me and my family have been dining here for years and if you want quality local good tasting food this is the place to go!
