For the second year now, my family spent our holiday in the beautiful historic market town of Bakewell. This is in the Peak District of Derbyshire. We stayed again at Haddon Grove Farm Cottages. This is a complex of holiday cottages that is set in the most beautiful countryside three miles outside Bakewell. The complex has one, two, three and four bedroomed cottages, eleven in all. The complex has its own indoor swimming pool, games room and children's outdoor play area.
All the cottages are reasonably priced and are fully equipped. They are spotlessly clean and very comfortably furnished.
Within a few miles of Bakewell there are a number of attractions for everyone. These range from the famous Chatsworth House where many historic films have been shot to the Heights of Abraham that is accessed via a cable cars. This is an ideal day out for adults and children alike. A few miles away you also have the Blue John Mines that are very popular with visitors. There are more places of interest to be visited than can be fitted into one holiday.
For this reason, not only have we spent summer holidays in the Peak district but we have also escaped there for weekends staying at some of the great B&B's in the area. Two we can highly recommend are The Garden Room in Bakewell and Poppy Cottage in Birchover a few miles away. Both boast your own private sitting room and bathroom along with very hearty breakfasts at very reasonable prices.
When in the peak district it is a must to visit some of the wonderful country pubs and sample the fabulous food that they have to offer. Again I can highly recommend both the Bull's Head at Ashford and the Cock & Pullet at Sheldon.
If you want a fabulous holiday in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK then Bakewell and the surrounding area would be very hard to better..
