I tend to avoid booking with Travelodge as much as I can, not least due to the enormous variation between each of their hotels, unfortunately it was short notice in this instance, and it was the only option I had- luckily it was for 1 night.
The whole site, hotel and service area seems to have been last refurbished in the 1980's, and not been touched since...indeed parking your car is a guessing game as the white lines seem to have vanished years ago, alongside with that lovely scent of stained in urine and grease that hits you every time you walk into a poorly maintained service station. The hotel room doors all retain their original numbering from it's previous ownership, with travelodge ones stuck over them.
Room itself was pretty poor- the only positive I can give is that there was no noise, and the linen was clean.. I think, although looked worn and old. The hotel hasn't benefited from one of Travelodge's more recent room designs, the paintwork and ceiling are just old, tired, chipped, marked and run-down. Hadn't been cleaned well, cobwebs and dust and carpet stains were all over the place, and a suspiciously musty smell lingering too.
Ensuite was no better, floor was old and mouldy, shower head sprayed out in all directions, grouting and plumbing all rusty and mildew-ridden, and the toilet much the same. Customer service wise- friendly enough, but as ever with Travelodge, none of their staff know who to direct you to when your not happy about your stay....
Avoid full stop if you can at all help it- the extra you might pay for another brand is most likely...
