A friend recommended Sharow Cross House as a great place to stay when we were planning a few days visit to North Yorkshire. We knew we had found something special when we arrived at the impressive house and saw the Michelin Guide plaque in the beautiful hallway. We were met by the hosts, Lyn and Rod, and spent a few minutes in front of the welcoming log fire as they desribed the facilities and offered us the option of dinner, We made another great decision by accepting the invitation, our evening meal was superb.

Our room (No2 'The Blue Room') was fantastic and was stocked with everything you would expect in a top hotel. Lyn gave us the grand tour of the rest of the house and it was obvious that the other rooms were all different but equally impressive.

After dinner we relaxed over coffee in the beautiful guest lounge before retiring to the confort of our room. Breakfast was another outstanding affair with lots of options and personal service that could not be bettered.

Sharow Cross House is simply fantastic and Lyn is a great cook who offers a genuinely warm welcome. We will be returning.

My husband and I wanted a guesthouse in the Ripon area last summer and found Sharow Cross House on the tourism bit on the council web-site. We were booking at the last minute and had no real idea what it would be like. We were blown away by our find! Since then we have been eager to find an opportunity to go back and did so for two nights last week.

The house is so impressive, yet welcoming and relaxing. You would be hard pressed to find anywhere more peaceful and yet so convenient for many attractions. Lyn, the owner, seems to have made it her goal to have thought of every possible thing guests might need. In the beautiful and immaculate rooms you will find every toiletry, lovely bath robes, a fridge with goodies you can purchase at shop prices and complementary bottles of chilled water,(great if you are about to go off walking), hot water bottles, sewing kits, etc etc . We were in the 'blue' room last time and loved it, but we sussed that one room was directly above the huge lounge (where Lynn serves tea and cakes on arrival) and was the same impressive size. We booked this larger room this time and enjoyed all the space,the great view, the larger TV and DVD player and the additional sofa. We sneaked a peek at the one room ( ruby colour scheme) that we haven't stayed in, and that was gorgeous too, so we might request that one next time!
Breakfasts are great...there's fruit, a lovely fresh fruit salad, grapefruit segments, cereals, porridge, yoghurts, muffins, lots of flexibility around a full english and smoked haddock. Lyn also offers an evening meal option which we took advantage of on our first night. It was a fabulous meal... cooked just for us by someone who really cares about quality. We ate at 'Lockwoods' in Ripon on the second night, on Lyn's recommendation, and that was great too.

We will certainly be back..and we generally don't do returning to places , but this feels like a very special find!
