We just retunrned from a beautiful stay at The Lantern Townhouse. Dingle is such a lovely place and the Lantern is the perfect place to enjoy such a quaint and friendly town. The rooms are very spacious and the breakfast is perfect. Sonata and her helpers are #1. There is a wonderful pub on the corner called the Small Bridge which had wonderful music nightly. But there are more pubs than you could imagine that offer the same.

We traveled there with my 4 children. They were able to take the 2 upstairs "attic" rooms which shared one bathroom. My husband and myself stayed one flight down in our own room which could have easily slept 3! The beds were so comfortable and the covers were so plush!

My children did not want to leave this very comfy home. There was even a computer available on the first floor in the sitting area which my family and myself were excited to log onto and send notes back to home.

Lastly, I even left my favorite pair of jeans in our bathroom on the hook behind the door. When I e-mailed Sonata, she without any questions, offered to send them to me. Now that is first class service!

Thank you for a most wonderful stay. We would love to return!

“Like a hotel, but cheaper!”

We wandered into Dingle well into the evening and were startled by the range of B&Bs. We chose The Latern Townhouse because it looked neat and well-kept (and it was close to the center of town) and indeed it was. We may have been the only people staying there, but they still put a full breakfast out for us in the dining room. Plus, there's a public computer right in the lobby, which was very helpful for checking email.

Overall, not the most home-like of places we stayed on out trip to Ireland. It was more like a nice hotel with breakfast. Still, well worth the standard 35 Euro B&B rate.

“Not a hotel and not luxurious”

The Lantern Townhouse

Location
This B&B is located on the main thoroughfare of Dingle village. This is a noisy (attractive) street, particularly at weekends. If you want peace and quiet ask for a room at the back. Front rooms could also be affected by bright street lighting.

Check in
There was someone on reception. Her English wasn't brilliant.
There didn't seem to be anyone around in the evening.

Ambiance
This is a B&B, not a hotel. There are several floors and no lift. The colour scheme throughout was interesting. The rooms are not luxurious – as the hotel description intimates.

Room
Our room was quite large but pretty basic. The television had 3 channels (one in Gaelic) only and was tiny. On the first night it was quite cold as the heating wasn't on (late October). Bed was a bit lumpy.
One armchair only.

Bathroom
Large but no bath. Good shower but bathroom was cold on our first day here.
Liquid soap dispenser only provided. (We bought some soap at the Centra supermarket nearby).

Cleaning
The rooms were clean.

Breakfast
Basic, gloomy, cramped breakfast room (the type that makes you crave for a decent hotel).
Breakfast very ordinary (tupperware cereal containers and tinned grapefruit segments and pears!). The “home-baked” bread came from a local shop.

Car Parking
Difficult to park near B&B. Watch out for problems with vandalism at weekend.

Pros
Location - central.
Free internet access.

Cons
Staff not on duty in the evening (at least when we were there. A contact phone number was given).
Room facilities – there were no tea making facilities in our room when we arrived.
Poor TV.
Mediocre breakfast experience.
Car parking.
Noise at front.

Would we stay there again? – the crucial question.
No.

Great location in the heart of dingle. Just across the street from Foxy Johns pub. Stayed the first weekend in October. Had no trouble finding parking. Would definatly stay again.

“august in Dingle”

Location is excellent. Rooms are spacious and basics (hot water, towels service) are above average. Breakfast was well done and service very accomodating. Late arrivals should ensure that prior arrangements are confirmed. Parking can be problematic, but that's true for everything in Dingle.

All in all, a good value in a great location.
