Have Stayed here numerous times since it opened.

It's an ideal location out of the hustle and bustle yet with a few handy stores nearby. It does exactly what it says on the tin, at a very reasonable price and does it well.

The food is excellent, having just returned from dining in new yorks best steakhouses the cedar restaurant outshone them with their rib eye which was just superb, all 5 of our guests complimented there food.

Staff as per usual were friendly and efficient with a special mention to the Lovely Katy at Reception.

Will definitely stay again.

Myself and my friend Terrie spent 1 night here on the 2nd november on a voucher. What a brillilant hotel to stay in - from arrival to departure the staff were excellent. Tara on reception was very welcoming. The hotel is modern with a very fine leisure centre. Our room was big and decorated in lovely soothing colours with great beds. We ate in the bar - the steak was cooked exactly as ordered and presented well on the plate - it was a great piece of beef. ll our food was exceptionally good - thanks to the chef and his team. Also the staff in the bar were very attentive and the manager came around asking everyone if they were having a good night. This extra customer care was noted by us and appreciated. Many thanks to everyone for making our stay so enjoyable.

We stayed here for one night - we were going to a wedding in another hotel nearby so we were not spending much time in the hotel. The hotel is very "grubby" - all the walls are scuffed, the skirting boards in the corridors are filthy and many of them had chunks taken from them (no idea how!)

The grouting in the bathrooms was all filthy dirty and the carpet in our room was stained. Clearly when the shower had to be re-siliconed, the old silicone wasn't removed and so there are several layers of old and new silicone around the edge of the shower which looks terrible.

We went to the pool the following morning - just to use the jacuzzi - it was barely lukewarm (probably the same temp as the pool) and again the grouting in all the tiles was just filthy. The shower in the changing rooms was barely lukewarm also and there was lots of hair in the drain guard.

The breakfast was just ok.. very poor selection with really just a basic fry or some cereal on offer - no meats, cheeses, fresh fruit (other than a very sour looking bowl of fruit salad), yoghurts etc. The seats in the restaurant and foyer, which no doubt when they were new were lovely, are now very tired and dirty (velvet does not score high on the durability scale!)

In the corridors, many of the light fixtures are dislodged, broken or falling off the walls.
I was very disappointed because I was expecting a four-star hotel and while I expect it was four-star when it opened first, it has been sadly neglected.
On a positive note, the staff at the front desk were extremely friendly and helpful in giving us directions etc. It's not their fault that the hotel is in such a poor state of repair.

Room tip: Ask for a room facing the front of the hotel, we had one at the back and we were looking out onto a yard full of skips and rubbish bins and also looking into people's back gardens.

Hi there LWA2014,

Many thanks for taking the time to write your review.

I appreciate all your feedback and there are points we will work on.

We are currently working on our painting programme and this is a constant work in progress. The areas you mentioned will receive attention in the next few weeks. We have just cleaned all our carpets and the seating areas are planned for the new year.

I am disappointed to read you did not enjoy your breakfast as we do have a great range of breakfast items. We offer a full Irish & continental breakfast and we have a full range of gluten free products. I will bring your comments up in our head of department meeting this week and we will have a look into it.

We do hope you will give us another chance and if you are in Athlone again please contact me directly on 090 644 4444

Kindest Regards
Victoria

Stayed for 3 nights Thurs 30th October until Sun 2nd November. Had 4 rooms booked as it was a family get together and I had my 4 year old and 7 year old with me. Kids Club was brilliant great value and my 2 loved it. Took part on 2 nights including Halloween when they played games and watched Monster House. Food was lovely ate in bar on 1st night and restaurant on Sat night. However, thurs night fire alarm went off twice spoke to reception and was told it was the bands fault?? Friday there was a wedding which meant kids and adults running up the corridors shouting and banging down doors at all hours. Spoke to reception who said theyd send up security but went on til 6am. Spoke to duty manager next day who apologised and explained it was very unusual. Slept fine on Sat thank god. Also plates and glasses at breakfast werent cleaned very well. Had to go through a few each morning to find clean ones. Wouldnt be rushing back and would make sure if theres a wedding on your room is away from function room and wedding guests.

Hi there Clare-Ann,

Great to hear from you and many thanks for taking the time to write your review.

We are so glad your little ones enjoyed our "Koala Kids Club" our camp leaders were delighted with your comments.

Unfortunately due to health and safety the fire alarms cannot be turned off for any reason and the night team carried out our fire process on that night. I do apologise but sometimes things like this is out of our control.

I have spoken to our breakfast team regards your comments and this will be put on our training list.

I do hope you will give us another chance the next time you visit Athlone and please do contact me directly.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon
