Cappabhaile House is a well-built, roomy, guest house where we were provided a large, private room and bath with a great view and an incredible breakfast every morning. We stayed for 3 days beginning on 13 April 2008. Conor, our host, was extremely helpful in every way both before and after we arrived. The Cliffs of Moher first attracted us to the area, but with Conor's help we learned that there was so much more to this area, namely "The Burren", than the cliffs. We made trips nearby to Connemara national park, the "Sky Road", various sites in and around The Burren, Bunratty Castle, and we did manage to visit the Cliffs of Moher. Conor and his wife made our trip very pleasant and memorable. We left after 3 great nights since we had to move our base in order to spend some time touring the Dingle peninsula and several Ring of Kerry sites before we left Ireland. Conor even provided good advice that helped us to determine where we could stay after leaving Cappabhaile House in order to maximize our euros and our time for the remainder of our trip.

Spending two days at this lovely B&B was a magnificent taste of Ireland. I can't think of a nicer way to spend my birthday than at this friendly place in the Irish countryside. Conor made us feel so welcome. The highlight of my trip to Ireland was being invited to listen to the traditional Irish music as Conor and his extended family sang and played together! Thank you so much to each of you who made this such a memorable experience.

If you are looking for a superb Guest House in the West of Ireland, consider staying with Conor and Margaret at their incredibly spacious, tastefully decorated, and comfortable home, Cappabhaile House in Ballyvaughan.

I would give this guest house my highest recommendations for the quality of the accommodations alone, but when you add the incredible welcome extended by Conor and his family, I cannot say enough good things. I've traveled extensively in Ireland (with over 50 nights spent in B & B's, Guest Houses, and hotels in the past three years alone), and I have to say without a doubt, that this one stands head and shoulders above all others I've experienced.

My mom joined me on my most recent trip, where we were fortunate enough to stay at Cappabhaile House for two nights. We arrived early in the day and were welcomed warmly, with guide books, maps, and an invitation to sit in on the music session that would be happening in the dining room after the family's Christmas dinner celebration that night. What a treat that was! To the delight of my mom, myself, and another guest from the US, Conor (button accordion) was joined by his brother (on guitar and banjo), son (on Irish pipes and guitar), father (vocals), and nephew (concertina) in a variety of traditional Irish melodies that lasted for several hours into the evening.

The next morning, we feasted on one of the huge breakfasts the place is renowned for (the menu listed a great variety of choices. We had the opportunity to taste several of them during our stay and were delighted with the quality.

Conor spent about half an hour helping me pour over maps and plan the day's excursion. His deep knowledge of the local area and wealth of guide books which he generously loaned us helped tremendously.

As we were checking out on our last morning, Conor spent additional time hand-drawing me a map so our route would cross several additional monastic sites as we were heading south.

I absolutely cannot praise this facility or its owners enough. Go there if you have the chance!

“We were sad to go!”

Cappabhaile House

We stayed here for two nights at the beginning of September and wished it could have been more. Cappabhaile is a beautiful hotel with spacious rooms, wonderful bathrooms, and a lovely common area with a pool table and games.

Conor was an excellent host, giving us recommendations of places to go and things to see. We were coming to Ballyvaughan from Galway and Conor recommended we take a Burren tour and ask to get dropped off on the return trip, rather than just take Bus Eirann. This was an amazing suggestion and one of the best parts of our trip - without the bus tour we wouldn't have made it to the Cliffs of Moher or learned near as much about the burren. Conor also made sure we had our return trip organized (we were returning to Belfast by bus) and even offered us a ride back into town on our departure day.

The breakfast was amazing, and huge! If you're a light eater be sure to let them know or you'll only make it through a tiny portion of your breakfast.

The only unfortunate aspect of Cappabhaile is that it is about a 10 to 15 minute walk outside of Ballyvaughan. We were dropped off right near the pier and had to walk through Ballyvaughan and along a very narrow road with our luggage until we made it to Cappabhaile. It was very disconcerting to have traffic coming both ways along a narrow road, and you pressing into the shoulder and hoping for the best! For visitors with vehicles this wouldn't be a problem at all as it is maybe a two minute drive from Ballyvaughan. And as Conor did offer to drive us into town for our return trip, it's a very minor complaint!

All in all Cappabhaile was definitely a highlight of our trip and we really hope to visit again!
