Stayed at the village on the hilltop.Rooms were grubby and not fully cleaned.Facilities were below what was described. Walk to/from the town was down/up a steep winding path that was dangerous at night. Having stayed at various other Irish locations I found Carlton village although new is past its best and the town to be shabby and in need of a complete clean up. The town is dull and many shops were closed - probably due to the massive Tesco shop. The harbour was soulless and the beach uninviting. The amusement arcade is in need of repair. Fortunately there was Cobh, Cork city & the spectacular Kinsale. I would avoid Youghal & try for Kinsale or Dingle. Maybe my expectations have been elevated by towns like Kinsale, Carrick on Shannon, Cong and Enniscrone but I deserve to enjoy my holiday considering the cost of staying at the Carlton Village.
