My husband and I just got back from a 10 day trip to Ireland with our two teenage boys. We stayed 2 nights in Doolin at this B&B and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Brid Shannon and her staff are full of warmth and hospitality. The breakfast is tasty and varied, my youngest loved the eggs and salmon, my husband and older son the traditional Irish Breakfast. The B&B is located right next to two pubs which both had music and food. It was wonderful to walk to the pubs at night; no traffic on the road, just people on holiday walking to the pub and about. During the day we visited the Aran Island Ishiner and that was absolutely fabulous. We hiked up to the castle ruins and then continued to the top of the hill amid the stone walls, cattle and sheep. Absolutely still and quiet except for the moo-ing and baa-ing. Wonderful! The kids rented bikes and rode around the island and the village. There are maybe 10 cars total so no fear of traffic accidents!

My husband, daughter, and I stayed at Killilagh House for two nights in mid-May of this year. Brid Shannon was so very gracious and provided a warm, clean, and spacious en-suite room for us. The breakfasts were delicious and quite varied. She bakes the best Irish brown bread in all of Ireland, for sure. Brid gave excellent suggestions for places to tour in the area with accurate time estimates to help us judge our daily sightseeing and hiking. Her recommendations for dinner and music were spot-on. We are eager to return to Doolin and will want to stay again at Killilagh House.

My husband and my parents all stayed at the Killilagh House in Doolin, Ireland in March 2006. Brid (the owner) allowed us all to check in early due to a very early flight into Shannon Airport (with no extra charge!). She even offered to make us breakfast before we went to our rooms to catch up on some sleep. This B&B was very quiet, clean, and tidy and within walking distance to 2 of the famous pubs in Doolin. The water pressure in the bathrooms was very good and there was plenty of hot water for showers. Brid's breakfast was incredibly good and she even made some special carrot cake for us that morning that hit the spot. Doolin is located about an hour north of Shannon Airport and is within minutes of the Cliffs of Moher. Doolin is also known as having some of the best traditional Irish music in Ireland. Brid is very flexible and had no problem with our early check-in (other B&Bs in the area tried to charge us an extra full day for early check in). Overall, I would say that the Killilagh House was a shining example of Irish hospitality and warmth! The next time we're in Doolin we will stay with Brid again.

We had the immense pleasure of staying at Brid Shannon's Killilagh House in Doolin, Co. Clare, in August of '05. She was most gracious and had a breakfast menu that was unrivaled. Her rooms are spacious and well appointed with plenty of room for luggage, a TV and a sizable shower [unlike too many Irish B & Bs]. It was quiet yet was within walking distance of the local pubs/Irish music scene. She was generous with her regional information and guided us to sites and, especially, music venues not usually frequented by Celtic music enthusiasts.

It was our treat and it will be yours as well. It's a must stay in the West of Ireland.

“Best B & B in Ireland”

Killilagh House

This past April I toured Ireland for the second time this year. It was a complete accident that my friend and I ended up in the town of Doolin. Perhaps, I should say it was fate. Tired from driving around the Irish countryside, we followed the signs to the nearest town. We took a left off the main road, pulling into the parking lot of a beautiful b & b, the Killilagh House. We were greeted by a charming woman...I believe her name was Brid. Decorated in splendid colors, the b & b was exactly what I had hoped for in Irish accomodations. Although my friend and I had planned on moving on the next day to Galway, we ended up staying in Doolin another night. I can't say enough about the warmth and hospitality of the Killilagh House or the town of Doolin. Put Doolin on your must see list. It is full of traditional music and lovely locals. Stay at the Killilagh House....It is located right across from McDermott's Pub and the Doolin Cafe. After our second Guinness drinking, music enjoying evening, my friend and I didn't roll out of our beds until noon...way past breakfast time. Our American heads throbbing, we went to check out of the Killilagh House and say goodbye. Brid insisted on feeding us. Despite the fact that breakfast was long over and the dishes done, she cooked us up the best Irish breakfast we had ever eaten. Ireland has won a place in my heart. Specifically, Doolin and the Killilagh house is #1 on my list as I embark on a 6 week tour this summer.
