“A gem of a place”

Roadford House

30 May 2008

I read about Roadford House on tripadvisor but could find no mention of it in Irish B&B literature. Do not be put off by this-apparently the powers that be in Ireland will not rate it as access to the bedrooms is via an external staircase. So do not be deterred.
We happened upon it on the way to the Cliffs of Moher and were delighted. The room was fine -huge en suite with large shower cubicle-nice tiling -bed comfortable and quiet location. But the evening meal-Early Bird Menu at 30 Euros was magnificent-a feast of flavour as well as a culinary delight for the eye to behold. We were only sorry we did not meet the chef to lavish praise on personally!
Our breakfast too was superb-I had the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs whilst himseld had the full Irish and you must try the Clare jams too.Is this getting to sound like an advertising promotion ? Sorry-please try it yourself and you'll also get excellent advice from Marian as regards visiting the area.
Thank you both at The Roadford House.

“Wonderful Dinner in Doolin Village”

On my first visit to Doolin Village, I asked a local shopkeeper where to eat a good dinner. Her suggestion was Roadford House Restaurant. Well let me tell you, my two ladies friends and I visiting from Canada were not disappointed. The appetizer was to die for - goat cheese parfait with pine nuts and honey figs. Absolutely delicious. The main course was very good served with a selection of fresh vegetables. It was a difficult decision on what to have. I remember choices such as lobster, lamb, salmon etc. They also served an early bird special. The dessert was a lemon merienge with yoghurt ice cream delight.. My friends also raved about their selections and are still talking about it. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant was very clean. Apparently, they also have a B&B. I would love to go to this village again. Next time I would stay right in town at their B&B so you can walk to the well known pubs for music etc and not be far away from the wonderful menu. We had some good meals in Ireland but this one was "a delicious dining experience". What else can I say - this is a five star.

We stayed for three nights in April at the Roadford House B&B in Doolin at very reasonable rates. It is located just over a hundred yards from McGann's and McDermott's, two of the three musical pubs in Doolin. The rooms are bright and airy, with great views over the countryside. Marian and Frank Sheedy are terrific hosts and their dog Bean (and his two brothers in the area) are great pets - Bean will even vist you in your room if you want.

Frank is a terrific chef and serves a great breakfast in the restaurant which is in the same building as the B&B. We ate dinner in the restaurant all three nights and it is a gourmet experience - delicious food with dazzling presentation. One of the best restauants we have experienced anywhere in the world.

“Perfect for a stop over”

Roadford House

8 May 2008

We were a party of 8 and found the bnb perfect for a stop over when going to see the Cliffs of Moher.

The little village of Doolin is pretty and quaint and the bnb is in walking distance to some nice traditional pubs with live music.
The best pub we discovered though is on the other side of town where we had great service, music and a fantastic meal. (If you have a designated river, it’s definitely worth going to!)

All 4 rooms were clean, airy and bright with lovely views over the village...

Breakfast was great and Marian was kind and helpful- especially when we got lost on the way there- they patiently gave us directions- twice!

Would definitely recommend.

The Roadford House is a clean, bright, cozy little B&B right in Doolin. The owners, Marian and Frank, are so sweet. Our room was a great size, with nice linens and a very nice bathroom. It's a very quick walk to the 2 pubs, but a longer walker--about 15 minutes, to O'Connor's pub, which is probably the best in town. One of the nicest things about this B&B, at least for this foodie, was the food! Great breakfast each morning in the sunny restaurant. Our one dinner here was one of the best we had in Ireland. Frank is an amazing cook and I think the restaurant is one of the hidden gems of Ireland. Too new to be in many of the guide books!
