We stayed at the Disneyland from the 21st - 24th May and absolutely loved it!
I had booked a junior suite which gives you all the benefits of the castle club, but the rooms are actually in the wings of the hotel rather than on the castle club top flors. I was a bit worried about it before hand, it was costing us alot extra and there wasn't an awful lot of information about the rooms so I wasn't sure if it was going to be worth it. IT WAS !!! We had a beautiful room right off the main reception area on the ground floor ( so not far to walk to anything as I had read a review that said rooms in the wings were miles away !)The bedroom was large and tastefully decorated and had a huge flat scren TV with International channels. Through double doors there was a large lounge ( where our two children aged 2 and 5 slept) with a sofa (bed which would sleep two children), two arm chairs, desk and Large TV unit with DVD player. You could access the huge bathroom from both rooms which was great - no children traipsing through the bedroom in the middle of the night! There was a bath, separate walk in shower, dressing area with robes and slippers and a gorgeous giftboxed set of items like toothbrushes and sewing kit with Snow White and the seven dwarves on it. They had left a vase of roses, a bottle of champagne and a cuddly Mickey Mouse in the room for us when we arrived which was a lovely touch and made us feel really special! We also had a lovely patio with furniture and access to a beautiful garden. Loved it!
Your door key allows you to get into the castle club area of the hotel where you can have breakfast each morning in a nice lounge area overlooking the park. There was a good spread of food that was constantly being replenished, and the lounge area was never crowded you could get seated straight away. You can see the characters in the hotel lobby at breakfast time but they do also come up to the castle club lounge and visit each table, we had Minnie, Mickey and Pluto visit us whilst we were there. The castle club lounge also puts on an afternoon tea from 4pm - 5.30 each day (no extra charge) which was lovely, a really nice selection of sweet and savoury nibbles and a good chance for a rest in peaceful surroundings after a hectic time in the parks. You can also get free soft drinks here all day.
We ate in Inventions one night and thought it was great. It was very expensive (£140 Euros for a buffet for 2 adults and 1 paying child and a bottle of wine !) but it was worth it. I had by this point got sick of burgers and hotdogs and queuing up endlessly in the parks for not very good food and this was a very welcome proper meal! There was a wonderful spread of fish, shellfish, meat ( the best roast pork I have EVER tasted!) pasta, vegetarian options ( there were even fruit and vegetables available, not easy to find elsewhere in Disney!) childrens favourites and desserts, and it was nice to sit and eat somewhere that was not noisy and frenetic ! Lots of characters visited the tables and spent lots of time with the children having photos taken and messing about, we had Mickey, Minnie, Tigger, one of the penguins from Mary Poppins, Captain Hook and Gepetto.
The best thing about the Disneyland is the location. It is just so convenient for the parks, you can keep popping back to your room if you want a rest or have forgotten something and it's no hassle at all. I timed it as being a 30 second walk from our bedroom door to the nearest turnstile. Amazing! We also found the Disney Express luggage service to be really efficient - we left them at the desk in the station when we arrived and they were in our room waiting for us after we had been to the park. On the day we left they collected our bags from our room and took them to the station for us leaving us free to wander Disney again. Great service.
Being castle Club guests we had VIP Fastpasses, these are cards that you show at the fastpass line any time of day, however many times you want, you don't need to use the regular fastpass machines that give you a time slot to return and sometimes run out when it's very busy in the parks.
To sum the hotel up I would say it is the perfect place to go if you want a magical experience and you can afford to pay for it. There is no doubt about it ,it's extremely expensive ( my husband and I have had a week in Florida for less than the cost of this holiday!) but I don't regret it at all. The convenience of the location alone made it worth the expense particularly when you have young children, and the castle club facilities are great. The children absolutely loved the place and I have to agree that it really captures the Disney magic. A fantastic holiday and we will definitely start saving up to return again one day!
