We arrived at the hotel using the airport bus and I think we hit peak check in time. There was a big crowd waiting to check in, I say crowd because there is no queue barrier so people just kind of swarm towards
the check in desk. We were seen by the check in staff within about 10 minutes and were given all the neccesary bits n bobs.
The walk to the room was fairly short although I noticed that there was very little lighting so it was difficult to see where we were going. We arrived at our "block", which is quite literally what it is,
a big concrete block painted red. We were on the 2nd floor so we lugged our cases up the stairs to our room (no lift).
The room itself I would say is pretty average for a budget/mid-range hotel. No tea and coffee facilities or air con, but everything else you should need is there. The TV had an odd problem in that when you turn it on it came on at full volume, every single time???
The "restaurant" is average. We had breakfast which consisted of crusty bread rolls, cheese, ham, pain au chocolat and cereal, not really anough for a full day trudging round Disney? The evening meal I have to say was much better, it was about 19 Euros and for that money I would say it was just about right (just!!) they had chilli, meatballs, chicken, pork and loads of accompaniments like rice etc. This type of restaurant/food is not really my thing but for the money I have to say it was OK. The one issue I did have with the restaurant
is the number of birds flying around in there, there must have been 20
or so!!!!!!
The very least I ever expect from a hotel is cleanliness and the Santa
Fe had no real problems in that respect. However, the least I would expect from a Disney hotel is cleanliness and a smattering of magic too, but there just wasn't any at all. I know this is the cheapest of the Disney hotels but I thought they would have the odd discrete little mickey mouse shape cut out in the furniture or things like that. I'm not talking about luxury stuff, just the sort of "hey did you notice that........".
One final point is that with the Disney hotels you get early or late entry to the parks. Of the 2 days we were there 1 was an early open day. We got up at 6, went for breakfast at 7 and arrived at the park for 8. What a total waste of time!!!!!! Yes, the park was open, if that means you can go through the gate, but all the individual lands were closed. The bit just behind the castle was the only accessible part of the park but even that was all closed. We couldn't even get a coffee as all the cafes were shut!!!! The only ride open was the tea cups and carousel. The space mountain ride did open at about 9:30 but that was it. If early openings is you justification behind looking
at Disney hotels, don't bother!!!
Overall I would say the Santa Fe is an average hotel, I was just dissapointed with the lack of Disney magic.
