I stayed here with my family in August 2007 and found the hotel to be unrecognisable from what was described in the holiday brochures.
This is no where near 5 star standard and I gather from other reviews on here that it is due for a total refurbishment sometime later in 2007, however that does not detract from the fact that as it stands now, the holtel is below 5 star standard and people should be warned and the price of the hotel costed for that.
Firstly my room was mediocre to say the least. Carpets were stained with who knows what and freyed as well. The furniture was cheap wood veneer and chipped in places to reveal splintered edges. Even outside the room, the hall area was in a similar state with stains and curled edges and lumps and bumps down the corridors. By the lift area there was wallpaper peeling off the wall which looked plain unsightly and an embarressment to the Hilton chain (are they aware of the condition ?....I guess they are if a refurb has been called for (not before time if you ask me). The management can easily fix things like this by getting rid of the wallparer (which only covers parts of the hall wall in anycase) and replace it with fresh paint. Easily maintanable I would have thought.
The pool which was fairly nice had the unfortunate addition of loud, pumping euro disco music going. I thought I was staying in a club 18-30 resort for a while as the staff were frequently coming around asking if we wanted to play pool game.
If I wanted to, I would have made myself available.
I might sound grumpy but in all hotels of this standard I have stayed in before, the focus has been on customer relaxtion first (and that means letting me chose whether or not I want to listen to music or not). Yes there was another pool on the 6th floor I believe, but if you have kids with you, they want to go where there is more than just a square pool, which is where the lagoon pool comes into it's own, but at the expense of others it would appear.
Overall this is sub standard quality and I would not recommend it to anyone. Whether it changes after the refurb is another matter, but if the management of it remains as is, then it will not be long before it declines into disrepair and sub standard again (even if it does take a few years to get that way again).
Think before you part with your money is my opinion.
