“5 Star ?....I Don't think so !”

Hilton Rhodes

20 Nov 2007
4/4 found this review helpful

I stayed here with my family in August 2007 and found the hotel to be unrecognisable from what was described in the holiday brochures.

This is no where near 5 star standard and I gather from other reviews on here that it is due for a total refurbishment sometime later in 2007, however that does not detract from the fact that as it stands now, the holtel is below 5 star standard and people should be warned and the price of the hotel costed for that.

Firstly my room was mediocre to say the least. Carpets were stained with who knows what and freyed as well. The furniture was cheap wood veneer and chipped in places to reveal splintered edges. Even outside the room, the hall area was in a similar state with stains and curled edges and lumps and bumps down the corridors. By the lift area there was wallpaper peeling off the wall which looked plain unsightly and an embarressment to the Hilton chain (are they aware of the condition ?....I guess they are if a refurb has been called for (not before time if you ask me). The management can easily fix things like this by getting rid of the wallparer (which only covers parts of the hall wall in anycase) and replace it with fresh paint. Easily maintanable I would have thought.

The pool which was fairly nice had the unfortunate addition of loud, pumping euro disco music going. I thought I was staying in a club 18-30 resort for a while as the staff were frequently coming around asking if we wanted to play pool game.
If I wanted to, I would have made myself available.
I might sound grumpy but in all hotels of this standard I have stayed in before, the focus has been on customer relaxtion first (and that means letting me chose whether or not I want to listen to music or not). Yes there was another pool on the 6th floor I believe, but if you have kids with you, they want to go where there is more than just a square pool, which is where the lagoon pool comes into it's own, but at the expense of others it would appear.

Overall this is sub standard quality and I would not recommend it to anyone. Whether it changes after the refurb is another matter, but if the management of it remains as is, then it will not be long before it declines into disrepair and sub standard again (even if it does take a few years to get that way again).

Think before you part with your money is my opinion.

What can I say..? Horrible!
I stayed there for a week and every single day I wanted to cancel the holiday (the island was terrible, too, just rocks, nothing interesting to do, boring, boring, boring, probably it's for retired seniors!)
The bed sheets and the towels were old and had HOLES in them! Yes, in a 5 stars hotel! The bathroom looked almost like a public one, the smell of the toilet canal was horrible.
I booked a sea view room, but guess what - no sea!
And for this "luxuriant " :( stay, they blocked a guarantee of 600 EUR from my credit card (I still have this money blocked, after one month and a half). Like I wanted to steal something from their disgusting hotel!
Guys, think again before booking a trip to Rhodes or before staying at the Hilton! I didn't want to believe all the bad reviews before leaving and I payed for it!

“Fantastic Hotel with great staff”

Hilton Rhodes

We stayed at the hotel in September with our 2 small children. On arrival during the early hours of the morning we were greeted by very cheerful night staff and shown to our 8th floor room with sea view. The room was very large, clean and had a superb view. Our room was serviced to a very high standard on a daily basis and the housekeeping staff were wonderful, paying extra attention to the children. The food in the hotel was fantastic - the fine dining restaurant has to be one of the highlights of our holiday. The pool area is great for kids and was nice and quiet. The area itself is OK with a few shops nearby and a nice restaurant called Coconuts.

All in all a fantastic holiday which was made even better by the helpful and friendly staff - we would definately return again.

“Anniversary Trip 8th September 2007”

Hilton Rhodes

18 Sep 2007

We have been to Ixia before and the hotel we stayed in was not really great so we thought we would treat ourselves to a week in the Hilton for our anniversary. We booked a de-luxe room with a seaview and I emailed them to make sure we had a good room. They assured me it was one of their best rooms but it wasnt that good with stained carpet and tired worn furnishings. The bathroom was nice though with marble tiles and good shower and bath. We only had breakfast in the hotel and there was plenty of variety but the cooked food was only luke warm so we usually had the freshly cooked omelettes which were execellent. The hotel facilities were pretty good although the gym was dissapointing with few machines which you had to pay to use. The pool area on the ground floor was very good with plenty of sunbeds available though service for drinks was poor with only one waitress on duty. The main drawback was the "Animation Team" who constantly strived to create a "Hi De Hi" atmosphere with silly games and activities. While water aerobics was on in the morning and water polo in the afternoon you couldnt swim in most of the pool. They also played the same music every day which got really boring. The drinks and lunchtime snacks were really expensive so we walked to the strip in Ixia where there are a couple of good bars such as Eddys for lunch at reasonable prices. There are also several restaurants here which are ok but dont expect a great dining experience. They cater for many people and its like eating in a large canteen some even have kareoke while your eating . We had mousaka without any meat in and irish coffees with hardly any whisky! The best we found are Le Gourmet which is down a side street and Alexandros. You need to go into Rhodes for better quality dining and we found a great place called Yamas which I would thoroughly recommend. When returning to the hotel after an evening out we found load music from the Pergola bar went on till midnight so there was no chance of getting to sleep before then. This was my main complaint about this hotel and think the music went on too late. The main clientele of the hotel seemed to be on the more mature side and I am sure they didnt appreciate being disturbed till that late. To sum up dont expect a quite peaceful time at this hotel. Apparently the hotel is going to be completely refurbished soon so I will wait till then before I consider going back.

This was our 3rd visit to the Hilton Rhodes and we were not disappointed. We had a sea view room on the 8th floor and our room was thoroughly cleaned each day including bedding and towels. The staff were always friendly and welcoming.
The dining room is self service with a great choice of food.I am glad to hear the hotel is to be refurbished this winter as some locations in the hotel show signs of weariness i.e.carpets stained.
The pool area was always immaculate and plenty of free sunbeds to go around.
Rhodes town is a short taxi ride, local bus or long walk away but isdefinitely worth a visit.A wonderful mediavel walled town and Mandraki harbour is beautiful.
On a downside the road to Rhodes from Ixia is very smelly from sewers in places!!The road is also extremely busy and not for the faint hearted driver,
All in all a great holiday and we will return.
Tip if you wish to use the computers in the hotel business centre to charge your ipod DONT.... mine was there for 2 hours and when I returned it had been stolen. The reception will allow you to use there secure facilities if required.
