We returned to this hotel for a 10 night stay (July into Aug) after holidaying there iatAll Azzurro in 2009 (7 night break), as we had enjoyed the overall experience and friendliness of the hotel staff, as well as the fantastic scenary of Lake Garda and the Dolomites. On this trip we were welcomed by the manager (Alberto) like long lost acquaintencies, which was really lovely. We were also welcomed by his son Matteo, who resides in scotland. My partner and I are vegetarian and this caused some ideological differencies with one particular senior member of staff who persisted with non-vegetarian foods even after he agreed with Alberto to accommodate our dietary requirements (i.e. putting down a dish of ham with egg on toast, and being asked to eat the toast from under the ham!), however all other hotel staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. To avoid embarrassing Alberto and Matteo we went to another restuarant the following evening for our evening meal as we could not be bothered getting into an argument with 'the particular waiter' and getting more ham on toast. The following evening meals were sorted out by the interventions of Alberto (who was understanding of our dietry requirements) and we were able to have delicious vegetarian meals including pizzas.
Our room at the hotel annex was basic; had great views over the lake, although we would have liked a balcony, and it was close to the small hotel pool. It did have a fridge which was essential to keep our drinking water/juice and beer cool and it was regularly cleaned , beds made-up and towels changed daily; a credit to the house-keeping staff.
Again, the the scenary around Lake Garda was spectacular, the weather good and the locals and other tourists friendly. Limone quietens and becomes like an island at night, after the ferries stop running, and there is chance to wander around the shops and lovely promanade area, as well as visit the local bars (a truly Italian experience), without it being too crowded. The atmosphere in Limone is amazing, wandering through the narrow cobbled winding streets.
We were able to visit lovely Riva by ferry, a larger town at the top of the lake, on a number of occasions, especially to visit our favourite ice-cream parlor ' Flora' situated between Riva and nearby Torbole, another lovely smaller town. Their ice-cream is not to be missed, so please visit for a treat!
On reflection of our holiday, I believe that Matteo and Alberto contributed again in making our holiday a memorable experience with their genuine warm and friendly approach. We will be returning to Limone and HOTEL ALL AZZURRO soon.
