This was my first time at butlins since the old chalet days 35 years ago.
We took our 7 year old grandaughter and she has had as good a holiday as her 5* AI in egypt and Greece. I know which I prefer but to be fair if she is happy it makes life easier for the adults.
Check in was easy and I even got in to my apartment an hour early. there are plenty of luggage trollies around which is helpfull as it can be a bit of a walk to your room. we stayed in a silver apartment on a sc basis and found it clean but basic and furniture a bit worn, but everything you need, plenty hot water but the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in,or more to the point didnt sleep in. we were on top floor and didnt experience too much noise.
there is plenty to do for adults and kids and splashworld was a great experience as is the fun fair, soft play for kids and daily activities , I think the fair and splashworld could be open later as you cant seem to fit all the free activities in and thats probably butlins intent. there are loads of slot machines and it is hard to keep the kids off them and they are placed en route to other activities. shows are really good, yes there are big queues but they go down quick and we always got seats even if we went later. Grandaughter really enjoyed I can cook and and circus skills activities.
FOOD: my advice take your own. We decided to eat in the coast buffet restaurant 1 evening and it was terrible. it is supposed to be a self service buffet . the packet tasteless soup, salad bar and cold deserts,(except ice cream) were the only things self service. you had to queue for all the other foods for ages which a did and when I got near the front I had been in the wrong queue for the main i wanted,i had stood there for so long I just got what they had and then stood in another queue for my grandaughter,so by the time I got to eat it was cold tasteless and I was stressed out. the system and the food seriously need looking at and my advice is GO SELF CATERING,I am so pleased I didnt have to eat there every day.
The chip shop on site was not very good, but burger king and hot dog stall ok and good value, they are the only eating venues we tried.
All in all a good 4 day break and yes I would return, sc again and a gold apartment.
