Booked for 2 weeks and was surprised at how competetive the price was. So did not have high expectations, but what a surprise we received. We had read about the noise in Tossa Beach and hoped we would be in Tossa Centre, however on arrival we were allocated a room on the thrid floor at the fron to Tossa Beach. Glad we did not get Tossa Centre. Tossa Beach has been refurbished in the last 2 years and all the rooms upgraded. We had a large bedroom with 2 5foot beds!!! and still plenty of room for table, plus storage for cases. The floors apart from bathroom are wood, therefore not as cold or slippery as tiles. The room had aircon and keycard entry. The bathroom had a shower over bath, bidet and handbasin with hand wash supplied. Towels were changed every day and the hotel is cleaned non stop!!! Always smelt fresh wherever you were in the bulding. We did not find the hotel noisy and most noise seemed to stop at midnight as requested.
Yes entertainment very basic and almost the same evrynight, but what do you want when you pay these prices. If you want braodway shows, go to a 5 star and pay a great deal more than here.
Food. Again, a bit surprised, it was basic, but we always found something we liked. Breakfast would have a choice of cereal, fruit, yoghurt, plus cold meats and cheese, as well as fried eggs, bacon, sausage, beans etc. Coffee and tea from machines, but you can go up as many times as you like. Fruit juice also from machine.Toast and rolls also available.
Lunch was always changing, but like dinner usually consited of soup or salad to start, plus, chicken, pork and fish. This was changed and on some days there would be beef or turkey. Desert was again a good choice, ice cream, jellies, melon, etc. Drink was from the bar, liked the sangria, despite being on draught it really was good. No rose wine, just red or white, plus beer and usual soft drinks.
Dinner was similar to lunch, but again there was always a good choice of meals. On 2 days a week there was also a paella. Most of the meat dishes were with a sauce and there were a couple I really liked, plus on more than one occasion the soup was really good, this from a non soup lover!!!
From 10am to midnight you could get drinks from the bar and although local brands I was happy with what we had. Glasses are plastic tumblers (apart from dinning room where they are wine glasses) but agin we had no problem with thsi concept. Can not understand how anyone would moan about the drink.
Pool, only sunny on certain parts at different times of day, but as the temp reached 34 on a couple of days was glad of the shade. Always got a sunbed, but you do need to be early for the best spots.
Half way through our holiday my wife had a fall in the town and we neded to go to the local medical centre. Here I would like to say a special thanks to Melanie on reception. She is spanish but speaks perfect english. She arranged a taxi, then over the following days assited me with sorting out translations for the medical centre and local internet cafe where I needed to get info for our insurers. Also arranged for whhechair hire. We feel she went far beyond what is normal. Well done Melanie.
To sum up, if you want good basic food, great accomadtion, nice smiley staff, and not bust your walet then give this hotel a chance. We worked out that we were paying around £50 a day for the both of us, that is very good value for money.
Tossa itself is lovely and not your typical Costa Brava resort, with a number of spanish who fill the resort at weekends. Give it a try.
