This was our second visit to the hotel and I loved it!
Grand reception and public areas were nice. The room was a good size with a good sized bathroom and balcony. We had a sea view this time which was gorgeous.
Staff were all friendly and always gave you a smile.
I found the food had a good variation every night and I could always find something different to try.
Particularly enjoyed sitting at the main bar by the fountain looking onto the infinity pool and beyond - what a view!
One piece of advice I will give is...try the spa.It was great and relaxing, especially as we went the morning we were going home.
I would like to return to the hotel in the future and would highly recommend it.

I visited this hotel at the beginning of June with my 2 daughters, 22 andd 19 years. We loved it, especially the pools and the spa, we had b and b so didn't eat in the hotel in the evening but had some good meals on the plaza just outside.
No tea or coffee making facilities in the room and the tv was mainly in german. The toiletries in the bathroom weren't up to scratch for a hotel of this size and rating, and the hairdryer was awful! So ladies, take your own!
The staff were all very helpful, but weren't able to stop people from bagging sunloungers in the morning, I was by the pool by 8 each morning and there were many reserved even at that time!
However it is one of the nicest hotels, I've stayed in and hope to return in September.

“Great hotel - worth paying for pool view!”

Great hotel, wonderful grounds, well maintained. All staff helpful & spoke about 5 languages! Hotel has a veritable army of cleaners so grounds & rooms spotless. We stayed B & B - breakfast buffet had lots of choice, and queues were minimal no matter what time you ate, even in Atlantico restaurant where we could eat outside on the terrace. We thought breakfast was good but cannot comment on evening meals as we ate outside the hotel in the evenings.

We saw about 6 different nationalities of guests at the hotel. The majority are German but we felt all were treated equally. Activities & entertainment available all day & into the the evening if you want it, not intrusive if you don't. We liked the candle-lit chillout music by the infinity pool which takes place on Fri & Sat.

Rooms have excellent wardrobe space - 2 double wardrobes plus drawers. Massive marble bathrooms with separate bath & shower & fluffy robes to wear. Highly recommend paying for pool view - all pools are on the sea-facing side of the hotel so better chance of a sea view. Ask for high floor to make sure you can see the sea over the palm trees. Non-pool view rooms might overlook the car park and construction site opposite. Hotel requests that guests use the provided airers to dry towels rather than the balcony railings to keep the place looking nice, which 99% adhere to (there's always one..)

Swimmers will be happy here with the massive infinity pool, which never feels crowded even when the hotel is full. Getting sunbeds can be a bit of an issue but piscina las fuentes (the smaller pool with the dog-shaped fountains at the western end) normally has loungers available even quite late. After 4pm there are loungers round infinity & river pools available as people head back to their rooms. Pools comfortably warm up to approx 8pm.

The Meloneras area is lovely, with a promenade (El Faro Boulevard) with great restaurants with sea views immediately behind the hotel. We loved Grill Faro and Grand Italia. 3 course meals for 2 with a couple of drinks each around 60-70 euros. Further restaurants available a 20 min walk west along the prom by Meloneras Palace hotel. Meloneras area, and the hotels in it, aren't cheap but this means there's not a single lager lout to be seen. We like to travel independently but in this case booking through Thomson/Tui was well worthwhile as booking directly with the hotel would have cost much more. Gran Hotel Costa Meloneras is definitely the place to be - Orlando Bloom is staying there as I write!

“What an amazing hotel”

Gran Hotel Lopesan Costa Meloneras

20 Jun 2008

From the moment we arrived at this hotel it was clear this was something special - way beyond any 4* hotel we'd stayed in before. The porters took our luggage from the coach and the next time we saw it it was in our room. The front of the hotel is fantastically landscaped with fountains that make you realise straight away that its a very well looked after hotel. And the huge reception area adds to ambience and feel of very good hotel.

This is a very big hotel, but the staff are so courteous and personal throughout the place that it feels very homely. As we had a child with us we were given a large ground floor room which is the biggest hotel room I've ever been in, and it was kept spotlessly clean throughout our stay. Towels are replaced daily, pool side towels provided, and even a couple of robes in the bathroom, which had both a full size bath and a large separate shower cubicle.

The hotel is so large you are provided with a map to find your way around, and it is easy to get lost in the corridors if you take a wrong turning. One of the great things about the hotel is the number of pools. Over a two week holiday we used three different pools, and each one felt like you were at a different place. Two are even heated, and its really odd getting in to a pool thats like a warm bath when its 26 degrees in the sun. There's even a number of outdoor jacuzzis on the platforms that over look the sea.

The food is also excellent. There's two restaurants to choose from for those on half board (or breakfast only), and the opportunity to sit inside or outside in each. The staff are very efficient, clearing tables the moment a plate is finished. There's such a wide range food on offer each night that over two weeks we never had to have the same meal twice. And the fruit flambes are worth waiting for ever other night. If you do want to eat out, the Bali restaurant across the road does a fantastic 17 course special menu, with lots of small dishes that even our 10 year old daughter enjoyed.

Also if you are on half board you can book to go into one of the a la carte restaurants for no extra charge once a week. Just book it at the PR desk in reception. You also book excursions here and buy tickets for places like Aqualand and Camel Safari, both of which are just a few minutes taxi ride away.

The hotel uses a card system, with your door entry card also being used to pay for any drinks or snacks that you buy in the hotel. Very useful as you don't need to carry any money around, and you can settle the bill when you check out, but it adds up very easily!

The entertainments not bad in the evenings, but not particularly good either. The Spa is however amazing, with some good value 4 hour packages.

The shops just outside the hotel are mainly upmarket, and there's quite a wide range. The back of the hotel has a gateway to the shops and the promenade by the sea, with a security guard in attendance to make sure that only hotel guests come in.

There is also a small bus station just 5 minutes away, and a trip in to Las Palmas is just 6 Euros.

Overall this is a fantastic hotel which has that great ability of making you feel very relaxed from the moment you walk in. Definitely recommended.

“Amazing hotel!!!”

Words cannot describe this hotel! We come to Gran Canaria every year but this is by far the best hotel we've stayed in! We stayed with Thomson, B&B for 1 weeks stay.

Arrival and Cleanliness
We arrived early morning on 29th May and was greeted by a very polite smiley receptionist, we were then directed to our room on the 3rd floor with a detailed map. The room was clean, tidy and spacious which had a balcony, the view wasn't much, just a grassy verge overlooking some other hotel rooms, but we didn't expect a seaview from the bargain price we paid for the holiday.
The rooms are cleaned thoroughly on a daily basis and even the mattresses changed once throughout the week, the cleaners are polite and speak a little english. We had our 'do not disturb sign up' when we didn't leave our room once till 11am and we still got our room cleaned later on.

The Hotel
The hotel is huge, the gardens are amazing with lots of impressive fountains, and has seven swimming pools, one of which is the biggest on the island, I loved the pool bar, there is a lazy river also. I agree about the towels though, all the good sunbeds seem to get taken first early morning around the pool, but that happens in most hotels I've found anyway! We still managed to find some, but alot are in the shade due to the palm trees. We are not ones for staying around the pool anyway, we tend to go to the beach. There is a nice view of Maspalomas from the towers and these can be reached by taking the lift to the 8th floor, and climbing a few steps, what a view!!
The hotel has morning activities, including impressive Thai Chi classes around the big pool, there is a spa that I've been told is very relaxing, a small well lit cave where you can walk under the waterfall, tennis court, putting green, table tennis and I'm sure alot more I didn't get to see. Evening entertainment is outside at the back of the hotel with plenty of seating and waiters taking your drinks orders, the entertainment varies, we had a magician, singers, mime artist and other talents on the stage, excellent! There are also numerous bars inside the hotel where the prices are reasonable and staff are really friendly.
We visited the Casino just outside the entrance of the hotel, and had such a laugh, you need to take your passport with you for ID purposes but it's free entry with a glass of champagne on arrival! You don't have to spend a fortune, there is a poker table, Roulette tables and Black Jack, also numerous fruit machines, all the staff are helpful and provide you with instructions how to play if you're not sure, it's well worth a visit!

Food
The meals in the hotel are all buffy style, you can choose to be seated inside or outside, there are plenty of tables, Breakfast is varied...cereals, fruit, cooked meats, fried breakfasts and some wierd looking spanish stuff which I didn't try but I'm sure is nice.
Evening meals are varied also, we paid 18 Euros each for a 3 course meal in the main room, which was very tasty.
We also ate in one of the two Restaurants overlooking the sea (can't remember the name), the staff are very friendly and the view is amazing over looking the sunset! Beautiful and romantic!!
There are numerous restaurants nearby on the Promenade, I would recommend The 19th Hole, the waiters are very friendly, happy and really look like they enjoy working there, they can also speak excellent English and they have varied music playing with television screens showing the artists. Oh, and the food is to die for!!

Hotel Extra
I had a slight accident in the lift one morning, where the floor was not level when entering the lift, I banged my toe and I couldn't have asked for a better service from the staff. The receptionist Manager ordered the lift to be fixed there and then, we had a taxi paid for to the clinic and back just to check I hadn't done anything serious to my toe, the next day we had a complimentary bottle of wine delivered with an apology, customer relations rang to ask if there was anything else they could do for us and because of my accident we had our room extended on the last day for free.

Maspalomas Beach
What a beach!!!!....only a 3 minute walk from the hotel, finding a sunbed is easy, it's a clean and a well staffed beach, with refreshment bars along it, as you walk down the beach there is a family area, a nudist area then a gay area...but these are harmless and if you carry on it's a nice scenic walk to Playa De Ingles. The sand dunes are amazing, a lovely walk but the sand is very hot so not to be walked on bear foot. I love this beach, the only thing I'd say is the Lucky Lucky Men can be abit annoying and chinese men asking if you want a massage, but they are harmless! It's not as bad as some places on the Island!

Nightlife
Maspalomas is good for bars and restaurants but if you want a proper nightlife Playa De Ingles is the place to go if you want a laugh. It's only 4 Euros in a taxi from Maspalomas and I think the best place to go is the Jumbo Centre, they have excellent restaurants and bars with entertainment happening such as Drag shows which are hilliarous. The Jumbo Centre is the gay capital, so as you can expect all the waiters and staff are very friendly and lively.
The Kas Bar is very busy full of bars and dancing clubs such as Ministry of Sound, Cream....etc. But there are alot of English PR's trying to pursuade you to go into their bars which can get abit annoying, but if you like that kind of thing then you would like the Kas Bar.

All in all we had an excellent holiday, I couldn't recommend this place enough, especially the hotel, everyone on our transfer bus was jealous of us staying there, it is impressive from the outside
