“Couldn't be better”

Vistaflor Bungalows

19 Jun 2008

Because of the link between expectation, demand and satisfaction I will first give an impression of what I hoped for heading this holiday. As a single gay traveller (with a budget of about 1500 euros to spend on airplane, accomodation, food, drinks, beach, party and all), I wanted to stay in a place where it would be easy to meet up with fellow travellers and where I would have my own 'home'. Normally I can really appreciate well served and good food, but for this holiday I'd thought a regular buffet restaurant would be good enough. And because I didn't want to lose time nor money on finding a nice and reasonably priced restaurant, I booked for half board.
In all aspects I found to have made the right choice. Vistaflor Bungalows is a cosy place, where different nationalities easyly mix up. Due to the fact that neighbours are so close, it's even hard to avoid socialising.
Concerning the service in Vistaflor I can only be positive. Of course - as everywhere - it's a matter of 'you get what you give'. Respecting the local rules and habits, speaking a little Spanish and just acting friendly will do wonders. Like one time I was late for breakfast, but the manager arranged that I could still have my morning meal. Or one time to boil some water, I had a pan too long on the electric stove. After explaining what happened, the staff immediately replaced the damaged one for a new one, without further costs or questions.
The entertaining evening programs are cute, someway amateurlike, but good enough for those who don't mind another acrobat or sweet young drag queen to sing that 'this' is her life.
Staying all day at the pool for me was no option. Too hot and too much family life.
Some detail about the bungalows. I had the privilege to have one in a single row, meaning: windows at the back of the house as well, so the wind guaranteed a very pleasant interior climate. If you have the choice, I'd advice one of these houses.
After all I had a marvellous holiday, for a grat deal because of this good accomodation.

My family and I have just returned from a great holiday at the Vista Flor Apartments/Bungalows in Maspalomas. I have no negative remarks about this complex. The apartments were comfortable and kept very clean by the maids, with changes of bed linen and towels regularly, nothing was too much trouble for them. The outside area of the apartments were also thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis. The pool and bar/restaurant area's were also very clean. The pool was quite chilly in the morning, but warmed up very quickly by lunchtime. There are plenty of free sunbeds, parasols and seating area's.
The bar/restaurant staff were very friendly, helpful and courteous at all times. The food at the complex restaurant both during the day and in the evening was excellent.
Evening entertainment was available and varied, it did not start until 10pm, but was quite enjoyable.
It is very easy to travel around the Island, Taxi's being very reasonable, on average a journey will cost 3/4 euros. I intend to return to the complex later in the year.

“Do Not Confuse Club Vistaflor with Apartments or Bungalows”

Despite my every effort to make sure we were not staying at the Vistaflor Bungalows (as I had seen and read terrible reviews online) the travel agent assured me that we were going to Vistaflor Apartments........Big Mistake as we ended up there anyway! This place is AWFUL!!! I get the impression they have changed the name of the apartments due to bad reviews and this has served to confuse everybody in the process.
If you have children or small babies DO NOT go there as you will be required to hire a kettle, toaster, microwave, fan etc from 10 - 25 euros for each item!!! I've never been self catering where there isn't even a kettle!? The beds are uncomfortable and never changed unless you request it. Apartments are smelly, dirty and cleaned badly. You also have to pay for a safe in the main Lobby as these are not provided in the apartments.
There were loose tiles and crumbling concrete all around the pool and a general state of disrepair. The staff stole all our food and drink on our last day before we checked out and then proceeded to scream at us in Spanish when we complained. Lovely CLUB Vistaflor next door is privately owned so despite great reviews, you can't really book it unless you go through an Irish company.
Do not go to Playa del Ingles if you are not at all comfortable with "Boys who like Boys" as you will be outnumbered 10-1. Although cheap to get to the main hub in a taxi or a very steep walk up some unlit concrete steps if you're fit; when you get there it feels like you are eating your dinner in the "Arndale Centre" without a roof!! My advise is go to Maspalomas where there is a lovely atmosphere and great restaurants.

“"You Get What You Pay For"”

As with any holiday, unless you have been to a particular hotel/apartment before you don't really know what you are going to get, and generally speaking you get what you pay for. But that said, we all have our own set of expectations, depending on what is important to us. Vistaflor apartments or bungalows are in themselves small and are quite basic. The annoying thing is that you have to pay separately to watch TV. There is no window in the bathroom to ventilate and the stairs are steep and hard if you have any disability/difficulty in walking - the bathroom is also on the first floor so no good for wheelchair users. Not enough hangers in the wardrobes or pillows for those who like to sleep high.

Staff were, on the whole quite miserable, particularly those at reception who made it clear that you were a burden to their daily routine - so not particularly friendly or welcoming. Some of the waiter staff were dithery and frequently got the orders wrong.

Only saw one cockroach on the last day so not too much of a problem, and that was just outside our apartment.

Security risk - you can pay Euro 23 including Euros 6 as a deposit for a safe deposit box for a week, where they will give you a key to keep and you then need to ask at reception for the door key to access the safety boxes on each occasion. The first point about this system is that you need to make sure that you get your paper receipt for rental payment of the box and the 6 euro deposit. This was not offered to me at the time of paying but was asked for when I returned the key and asked for my deposit back. They initially declined so I said i wanted to lodge a complaint and they paid out. The other risk is that they hand out the door key to all and sundry and do not check who is asking for it. The same principle applies to the apartment keys - if I were aware that a specific room had left their key at reception it would have been very easy to have asked and got them.

Restaurant/Food - again you get what you pay for and the food was dull and repetitive with some very bland foods which could have been made alot more interesting. The best part of going half board is that it gives some timekeeping to the day. The cold/salad food was the better. With the hot food it was pot luck if anything took your fancy. It must be said I like my food but even I was a little disappointed. Vegetables were all out of tins or cooked from frozen and then overcooked. Meatballs fresh from a tin and french fries undercooked/soggy. Deserts were not much either with the only thing positive was the ice-creams and fruit of the day.

Annoying thing about the restaurant was the fact that you were not allowed to take in your own water / drinks and were made to buy instead.

Positive things about Vistaflor was the evening entertainment and the location. Very central to all beach and shopping facilities. The pool was great and the scenery to the apartments were pretty with vibrant colours.

I have probably missed a few things off but please contact me if you need any clarification of any points.

After reading reviews on this site, I was a little worried about our trip. But it was fine. We didn't have any problems with nosy in fact it was one of the quietest places we have stayed at. Most of the previous staff had been fired so any concerns in other reviews can be forgotten. Bar / resturant waiter in the day very good. The rooms were not spotless but they were fairly clean nothing to worry about. Sheets and towels a little worn. All in all a good place to stay great place for a base. If you don' t sent all your holiday cooking in your apartment you will be fine. There is CC TV about so was nt concerned about been broken into like a nother review said. Go and enjoy Faro 2 shopping center has plenty of places to eat only a short walk
