“Very nice hotel”

Just got back from a very relaxing week here. The hotel is extremely clean with well appointed rooms (including full bathrooms with very powerful showers!). Our room overlooked the lighthouse and sea on the western side of the property, which I was quite thankful for, as there is a bar / restaurant on the eastern side which played loudish music until 11.00pm or so (we had our 4 yr old with us, so were thankful for peace & quiet at his bed time!!).

Main observations were:

* The clientel are generally retired Germans. This in itself is no problem, but I don't think they appreciated a 4 yr old splashing about in the pool all day while they were trying to do elegant "not getting hair wet"swimming!!

* The evening entertainment was pretty dire for 30 somethings!

* Dinner in the restaurant is a jacket & tie affair - a little over the top for what is really a buffet in a very bright restaurant. We decided that was a little OTT for us, just wanting a relaxed beach holiday. However, staying half board it was easy enough to switch from taking dinner to lunch.

* Breakfast was excellent, with a wide choice of hot & cold food.

* There is a digger outside the hotel at the moment shoring up the sea defences, but it really wasn't intrusive at all.

* The staff are excellent and were most accomodating throughout the stay.

* The pool area is excellent, with a large heated swimming pool and reserved sunbeds. The gate opened straight onto the beach, so was perfect for going for a stroll / playing in the waves etc.

Generally, we were very impressed with the hotel & it really is a cut above the standard holiday hotel.

“Fabulous Faro”

Barnsley Yorkshire

Just arrived back after 11 wonderful days here. First of all the hotel has the perfect location, right on the beach, and isn't one of the massive complexes that are near by. Our room was on the top floor(5) and we had a part sea view, it was very spacious and had a full bathroom. Though some of the reviews said all the rooms had showers only, this is not the case. The rooms are carpeted and exceptionally clean, as is the rest of the hotel. We had a large balcony with sunbeds and table and chairs, we overlooked the sandunes and sea which was fabulous. The pool area is lovely, you are allocated a sunbed on arrival and keep that throughout your stay. (Why other hotels dont adopt this approach I'll never know.) Staff are exceptional, efficient, friendly and very professional. Breakfasts are good, the usual choice, and good quality food, excellent coffee and tea. Evening meals are not as good, it lacks choice, and there is limited food. there are only 4 dishes with hot food in, and meat to be carved by the chef, however if the chef isnt around you cant reach it to get your own. There were a lot of people walking around with empty plates looking bewildered. People do get quite dressed up here for dinner, but what a nice change that makes. Bar areas and prices are good, but the entertainment is DIRE! there's a resident duo that wouldnt be out of place on 'X Factor the ones that didnt make it' they are truly awful as is the rest of the entertainment. Meloneras itself is a very relaxing place, lovely promenade with lots of shops (not all designer) cafe's and restaurants, very safe and clean (no touts bothering you here) Check out the 19th hole pub, it has a fantastic singer/guitarist called Gerry Lane, also cafe athena for a nice morning coffee.
And yes there is a digger on the beach, moving large boulders, but it's nothing to get upset about. Its only working a few hours a day, not at weekends, and if it was such a problem the tour operators would notify you of it. All in all its a good hotel in a brilliant area in which to relax and unwind.

“Good Hotel, excellent service, shame about the drilling”

IFA Hotel Faro Maspalomas

We stayed here for a week in the middle of February. The hotel is ideally situated in a very quiet and pleasant resort with access to the beach and a short walk to various bars and restaurants.

I'll get my major gripe out of the way, the council are currently renovating the sea front right outside the pool area of the hotel. This entailed a combination of drilling combined with a JCB digger depositing large rocks into articulated lorries from 7.30am to 4.00pm. This is nothing to do with the hotel and not their fault and there are notices in the hotel apologising for the inconvenience. This also does not look a short term project and I would check with your operator before booking.

The hotel itself is very nice with excellent service, when we were there 95% of the guests were German over the age of 60. The hotel is set up to cater for this and it is reflected in both the food and also the entertainment. I was a little disappointed by the food of an evening time, a large buffet, but then I don't usually stay half board so wasn't sure what to expect.

The entertainment was something else, it obviously wasn't designed to appeal to me being mid 30's. But a unicyclist and a contortionist one night was followed by a fashion show the following evening!

It's also worth spending a bit extra and getting either a side/sea facing room (try to get the lighthouse side) or a direct sea facing room.

I liked both the hotel and it's location, the service is outstanding no matter how busy the waiters and waitresses they would always be there to take a food or a drinks order.

They have a good system of allowing you to reserve the same sun lounger for the entire week. If you are a sun worshipper try for the loungers on the right of the pool nearest the lighthouse.

I liked the hotel and would go back there in about 20 years when I might actually appreciate a bloke riding a unicycle.

“Have to fight for room paid for”

IFA Hotel Faro Maspalomas

If booking this hotel be careful. We booked a room with a full sea view and paid extra over the standard and lateral (side) sea view rooms. On arrival at reception, Carlos (with an attitude problem that day) firstly checked us into a standard room. We noted we had booked a sea view he then gave us a room with a sea view. This we found to be a side view. Returning to reception we then had the biggest amount of untruths ever encountered (Spanish hotel staff have always been very calm, polite and truthful) including "we had not booked the room, there were none available, and incredibly we had paid a discounted rate and were therefore not entitled (which is irrelevant and and in any case we had not). Numerous phone calls to Xcapewithus who had booked us (they are good) eventually after several more encounters with reception a sea view room was provided - although the hotel said they were doing it as a favour. We had lost half a day of our holiday and left a shadow over the rest of it. We have written to IFA hotels head office but they have not had the courtesy of even acknowledging our letter.

Very good views from the compact room. Do not go if you dont care for listening to or seeing your room mates ablutions. The shower and wc are in obscure glass boxes which are in the living room and the doors have wide gaps all round! The side sea view rooms are larger and they have a bathroom although it is again obscure glass and the door has gaps. Those rooms facing east over the dunes have the dubious pleasure of the nearly continous music and smells from the adjacent restaurants. First floor rooms have the thump, thump of the hotels entertainment. So choose carefully - although Carlos may not allow you to have your choice!
The evening food on the whole was good, some nights the cooks seemed reluctant to provide replacement main dishes. The cooked breakfast choice was limited but the cold buffet extensive.
Towels and robes are provided for pool use. The guests are mainly German.
Parking is limited and by the way if you drive to the hotel, the street down to the lighthouse, adjacent the hotel is signposted as no entry, but you just have to ignore it.
If you want a lunch in surroundings a cut above the restaurants nearby try the Riu Maspolanas hotel to the rear of the Faro for €8 you can have their buffet salad main course.
It was a shame IFA and their staff cannot act rationally. We will not use them again because of their attitude.

“Excellent hotel”

Excellent hotel. Can't fault the service from the very friendly receptionist to the pool staff.

Would definitely stay here again as the location is perfect, right next to the beach and the nightlife (quiet) on Faro Boulevard.

We only tried the breakfast as we were b&b. There was an enormous buffet each morning which a huge selection of cooked breakfast, yoghurts, fruit etc.

The room was spotless and very modern and each room has a large balcony with sun beds. I wouldn' t hesistate to recommend this hotel to anyone.
