We stayed at the hotel in December 07 and had a lovely time and could find no faults, however, I am really sad to say (as I thought we had found a real winner here) that the service was really awful in the restaurant and considering we were half board and meal times are a big part of a holiday we were very disappointed.

On arrival to the restaurant we got lots of lovely smiles and hello’s but as soon as we were sat down the service was non existent. We regularly had to pull our own table together (there was three of us), find our own high chair, the drinks order was taken half way through our starters, the starter plates were never taken away and our drinks were plonked on the table by the time we were onto our main course. We tried to get the waiters attention a number of times who just pretended to not see us so we gave up in the end just got on with it.

Someone on here mentioned earlier that they noticed the service went down hill after they came round with their little survey and I think they are probably right. Or else the boss had the week off the time we were there so the staff kicked back!

On checking out we were not even asked if we enjoyed our holiday at all!

All in all, as my previous entry states, it is a really lovely setting, well maintained, rooms are great (but noisy) and it is very child friendly (however, the children’s supervisors in the play centre seemed completely uninterested and there was very little structured activities, they could have done with making a lot more effort and stopping the kids from running off our of the room!).

We were going to come back here for 2 weeks in December but I highly doubt it now. However, our trip in December was great so hopefully someone at the hotel will read this review and sort out some staff training for the restaurant staff!

“Bored and lodgings”

Gran Hotel Lopesan Villa del Conde

Well, generally I was impressed with this hotel. It's very clean, well designed and generally a joy to stay in. BUT.... it is not without it's faults. The walls are so thin that you do not need to see the towels on the loungers to know that the Germans are coming (so to speak). Ya, ya, yaaaaaaaaaaaa. The clip klop of high heels on the marble floors also loses its appeal at 3am. Also do not look beyond sun bathing and relaxing for things to do. There is not much around.

On the plus side the hotel is really lovely, and the staff attentive.... although I did get the impression that the staff hierarchy did produce some starchy stares between them.... [---]!

On the whole a good place to stay if all you want to do is relax. I would even recommend getting upgraded to full board when you check in as it is relatively cheap and you will not find great food at many of the restaurants within 5 miles. The food in the hotel buffet is really rather good. The pianist in the bar to the left of the front desk was excellent.... worth the inflated bar prices.

We would have had to pay 45 euros to have the room til 5 on our last day.... a rip off considering we had been there 9 nights..... ho hum.

One last issue.....the best selling English newspaper is the Daily Mail. Don't expect clever conversation.........

On balance a good place to stay and relax / unwind. Just don't expect excitement. The entertainment is strictly cabaret...... the Abba covers singers actually complained about the lack of audience support.... complete with fake Swedish accents. Now that was priceless.

“Fantastic hotel”

Gran Hotel Lopesan Villa del Conde

We stayed at the hotel on b+b basis for one week at the end of April. The hotel was about a 20 min drive from the airport in a speedy taxi.

We were greeted by a glass of champagne each and our luggage was taken from us and we were sent to reception. The reception/foyer is stunning and can only begin to show you the size of the complex. The hotel is spread across large grounds, so large infact the people greeting you at reception give you a map when you book in which resembles disneyland maps!

The rooms are located in various blocks across the grounds, each of them has a different view, I would think you would be very unlucky not to have a good view from the majority of them. The rooms are large with a separate room/walkin wardrobe and a lovely separate shower/bath and bathrobes. Chocolates in the room everyday. I would agree that the walls seemed abit thin, and the tiles on the floor thoughout the hotel tend to make everything seem louder but this certainly wasnt a major issue. You are given blue towels for use on the sun loungers (you can change them free everyday for new ones)so save yourself some suitcase space and dont take your beach towel!

The grounds of the hotel are well looked after and there are lots of staff around everyday maintaining the various areas and cleaning them.

The Spa at the back of the hotel by the promenade is well worth a visit. We had a massage in the suites overlooking the sea.

The pools - all 5 of them are great, lots of sun beds situated around them and elsewhere in the grounds of the hotel. The infinity pool is saltwater and not heated, the others vary between heated and not. In my opinion I thought the sunloungers were comfortable, i wouldn't want to sit on one with cushions that gather everyones sweat.

The food was excellent and the choice was immense, I cant imagine what food you would be looking for if you think there isn't enough in the buffet. We found once you had collected a full plate the staff want to carry your plate to your table for you. The buffet is 24euros each for those on b+b (we didnt know til the bill arrived when we checked out.) but then if you had the lobster as a starter i think you would make your money back instantly. You can use your personalised room key to put anything you buy onto your bill if you havent got cash handy then pay when you checkout. We didnt eat/drink in the other restaurants and bars but they looked good.

Location of the hotel was good, on the promenade. You can go right which takes you to a small beach with a few restaurants and a seemingly redundant shopping centre or go left towards the boulevard of designer shops, little supermarket and restaurants and another shopping centre. You come to a lighthouse and then onto meloneras beach towards the sand dunes. Choice of restaurants is a little limited and we felt there was a little price increase for eating in meloneras because of the standard of the hotels located near the boulevard, but having said that the food was good and the restaurants looked smart.

The staff were all very friendly and walked around with one arm behind their back, as you do.
The entertainment was ok, situated in the townsquare type area. This was the only time you could tell how many people were staying at the hotel when they were congregated together, otherwise i think it would always seem quiet because of the size of the grounds.

You get the service you expect for the money you pay for staying in this hotel and it certainly surpassed other 5 star hotels we haved stayed at by miles. Thought it was an excellent hotel and would definitely stay again.

Would agree with the general consensus that this is an excellent hotel and would definetly recommend the hotel

Some Minor Issues (that could be sorted easily...)

1. No Cushions for Sun Loungers (can be a bit uncomfortable)
2. No Privacy between balconies (ie a timber lattice vs solid wall)
3. No packed breakfast on day of departure (we left @ 07:00)
4. Buffet Dinner could be better labelled/set out - difficult to know where everything is (or what everything is!) - also buffet limited on the vegtable side

Some other minor issues

1. No (very) near shop for water etc
2. Choice of restaurants in Masopalomas/Melonaras is limited

However would definitely return to villa del conde as the positives far outweigh any negatives above

“great location”

Gran Hotel Lopesan Villa del Conde

We stayed at the hotel for 9 nights in a deluxe garden view room. The location and lay out of the hotel is beautiiful. ALL staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Whilst the room and the facilities were of a high standard we feel we must comment on the sound proofing or lack of! Any sound coming from an ajoining room can be heard all to clearly, ie. coughing, snoring, sneezing, toilet flushing, footsteps, trolley cases over 24 hours etc.

This was the only down side of this hotel. If you are going take some ear plugs.

The food selection is excellent, however after a week buffet food can become a bit repetative.

In spite of the above we would recommend the hotel and would definately return.
