Travelled to this delightful naturist resort in early Jan 2006. It's not a classic hotel, but an arrangement of 28 semi detached villas, surrounding a pool with a bar/restaurant.
There is a good sized pool, which is heated. The Canaries have a great climate, but we have found many resorts do not heat the pool and this can be a problem in the periods of the year with short daylight hours. One of the reasons we chose this hotel was that it had a heated pool, with good shelter from the winds that can often blow quite hard in the Canaries. We are not active naturists all year round. We don't belong to clubs etc, but enjoy the freedom of being 'clothes free' on holidays, so this resort is a good balance, giving us the choice of dressing or not. The walk to the massive naturist beach at Maspolomas is not too long or arduous, but equally staying around the pool with its ample sun beds, umbrellas, and bar is a very attractive option.
The accommodation is superb. Clean, spacious with a large bedroom, lounge/diner and bathroom with bath, shower bidet & WC. Each unit has its own garden & veranda area.
When we stayed the occupancy rate was about 70%, with people staying for a few days or several weeks. It tended to be an older age group (50+), but this was probably due to the timing of our break. It seems you get a more varied age range in the at other times of the year. It is a naturist hotel and nudity was normal around the pool and bar area all day, although the evenings were chill and most people dressed for dinner. At this time of year there wasn't any organised entertainment. Most evenings we went out to the local towns, Maspolomas or Playa del Ingles, and found quite a few good restaurants and lively bars. For the more hedonistic there are even bars for people with a liberated lifestyle.
The food in the hotel, on the nights we stayed in, was excellent, if a little lacking in choice. With a small client base they tend to have daily specials. We enjoyed the food and the wine wasn't expensive, but we avoided evenings when the specials were not to our taste. They also serve a good range of snacks & meals during the day.
You can have breakfast in the bar with a variety of hot & cold fod, but it is not freshly cooked, and in hindsight I think we would have done better to keep a little food in our room for breakfasts, etc.
The location is a little inconvenient. It is in a cul-de-sac in the Golf course area and it means a ½ mile walk to get onto the main road. As the resort in nestled below a cliff, there are no short cuts to the nearest bars, shops etc. They run a courtesy bus to the beach at Masplomas & into the shopping area of Playa del Ingles, but this is irregular and doesn't 'toot' or make itself known when it arrives. However taxis are cheap and plentiful and we used these whenever we didn't want to make the mile or so walk to the beach or town. One word of advice - on the maps it looks as though there is a short cut through the golf course, but this is fenced off with barbed wire and many hawthorn bushes, and is not really useable.
The hotel organises transport to & from the airport which was fairly cheap and arrived on time. In fact the hotel management are very helpful and can resolve most problems.
Overall we enjoyed our week and will be returning, probably later in the year when the nightlife is busier, and would recommend Magnolias to everybody.
