“Very Enjoyable - kids loved it”

Green Golf Resort

6 Apr 2008

We stayed in two bedroomed apartment All Inclusive over looking Los Gigantes and Americas it was a lovely apartment but a good walk - which was fine as we ate loads so a bit of excercise! would not recommend if you found walking difficult as there were also two flights of steps up to the apartment. Cleaners were fine. The food was a bit hit and miss but mostly there was something to eat. Kids enjoyed the food they would try a bit of everything. Breakfast one morning was busy and they ran out of a lot of things. Staff on the whole were OK - be preared to queue for drinks but you can order as many as you wish (probably why the queues were long). Kids loved it. As we were all inclusive hardy spent anything so it was a bargain. Entertainment ok.

Just returned from holiday and couldn't wait to write my review. Green golf was absolutely fantastic, suitable for couples and familes with young childrenstaff very friendly, rooms big and very clean, kitchen well equipped, maid service 5 days a week {no service Wednesday & sunday}, and the whole complex overall was beautiful.
We were a party of 5 using two rooms and staying self catering. There is a supermarket on site but is a little bit expensive most people took the courtsey bus down into Playa de las Americas ,done their shopping and returned on the next bus The green golf resort uses a no money system whereas you charge everything to your room ie. bar, restaurant, and supermarket bills. You sign a recipt for everything so tou know how much your bill is. you can either put your credit card or euro behind the reception desk.
Although i have given the Green golf resort an excellent review you would need to know that the resort is a good 15 minute walk from the edge of Playa de Las Americas and is sitting in a valley so its quite a steep walk in and out of town.
I usually would not go to Tenerife but decided this time to try it out everything was really wonderful except the TAXIS. This service does not seem to have any consistencey in its charging. As i have already stated we were a party of 5 so we required two taxis at a time, not once in all the time we used the services were we charged the same amount of money for the same distant taken. Sometime the difference was as much as 2 euro.
If you like English food try the GIDDY GOOSE , for Irish nights try Mary Rogans and for Spanish nights try Creperia Amina these restaurants are all near the beach but are all reasonabley priced.

“A lovely holiday ...”

Green Golf Resort

12 Mar 2008

My husband and I have just returned from a week's break at the Green Golf Resort in Tenerife and we had a great time. The resort is very relaxed, very quiet (apart from the extremely noisy German children!) and clean. We had fantastic weather which obviously helped enormously and I imagine we might not have had such a good time if the weather had been less kind to us. The cashless system is quite a good idea and it is very easy to keep track of your bill, despite what other reviews say. The general areas are exceptionally clean and well tended but the maids who clean the rooms do vary in their standards but I can honestly say it was never dirty. I thought the kitchen area was fine but I guess if you are taking children and need to cook rather than eat out it might not be so good. It is quite a long walk to the beach and shops - fine if you are energetic but probably too far if you have kids or are lazy! However, taxis are easy to come by but the fares vary hugely. We both felt it was a shame that the bar shut at 6pm on the dot and felt that the resort would be much better off with a bar open during the evening. I think they must lose a lot of revenue by not having one but I guess they know what they are doing!

Playa de las Americas is changing its' image somewhat and although there are still large parts of it that I wouldn't want to go near, the main street through Arona is very swanky and I was very impressed by the general standard of the shops and restaurants.

We booked a trip while we were there through a company called Direct Excursions and cannot praise them highly enough. The guide was wonderful, very informative and entertaining although the driver did put the fear of God in me from time to time by overtaking very small hire cars quite agressively on narrow mountain roads! Just glad I was in the coach not the car. You can pick up their leaflets all over the place and I am sure all their trips are equally good.

Overall, we had a great time, helped a lot by the wonderful weather. I would thoroughly recommend this resort if you don't mind walking, don't want easy or immediate access to bars and clubs and just want a bit of peace and quiet with the choice of the other stuff if you want. I wouldn't think it would be up to much in the very highest season but, at this time of year, it was just great.

“Relaxing Environment”

Green Golf Resort

We were guests of Green Golf on this our second visit. The first in February 2007 did not go very well and this was thier way of saying sorry by inviting us back for a free week. Check-in was very quickly done and we put 100EUR deposit on our room account as the resort does not operate with cash. All purchases and services are charged through the keycard. Receipts should be kept to make sure the bill does tally up.

Our two-bedroomed duplex apartment was fantastic, more like a house. A twin bedroom at the rear, next to it a small shower room with toilet and wash basin. A large fully equipped kitchen complete with full oven and hob, microwave, kettle, toaster and full size fridge is available should you feel the need to knock up a meal. The large lounge diner was tastefully furnished with higher standard furniture than you normally find in Canarian accommodation. A large full width Balcony complete with table and four chairs and an all important clothes airer is available on this floor. The real gem of this duplex is the master suite downstairs. Three double wardrobes, chest of drawers and also a TV in addition to the one in the lounge. Large bed made up of two singles. A massive ensuite bathroom with twin washbasins and fullsize bath and shower, toilet and bidet is also provided. French doors lead out onto large terrace part shaded by the balcony above.

The supermarket onsite is ok for buying mik, bread and butter but the shops in town are cheaper. A self service laundry room is available if you dont like taking dirty clothes home. The pool and surrounding grounds are immaculatey presented, The pool is divided in half by a walkway. In winter one side is heated, as we found out the previous visit but am sure it was not heated this time. The Jacuzzi also was not working. If you dont like to cook for yourself you can get breakfast at the very welcoming poolside bar. The complex has an animation routine which is shown in reception, detailing the daily activities. A courtesy bus runs to the beach and back several times a day, however its a nice enough 20/25 min walk if you prefer. Probably not at night though. Taxi's are available at the end of the road. Be cautious though. I found a lot of the drivers assume you dont know the way around and took you long routes or deliberately out of the way. On one trip I asked to get out and walked the rest. I once lived here and it does not fool me.

I used to frequent the Aberdeen Steakhouse chain of restaurants whilst holidaying on Tenerife in the past and we ventured to the one opposite the Aparthotel Columbus as a group of 8 during this holiday. I will never, EVER go back or recommend them to anyone else. We asked for four seperate bills, one for each couple, but they refused stating "it is better for you to have one together" In the end we asked them to split the table in half and we agreed four to each bill. Two on my table had shards of plastic in the Ice-Cream which the waiter looked at indifferently before taking away, Leaving the Ice-Cream - Like they still wanted to eat it! When we got the two bills, we were told our bill had the two desserts removed which fine, we accepted but then they had added drinks we never ordered and the waiter became aggressive stating we did have it. In the end the bill was altered we paid and left, the other half of our group though faired worse. They were charged for desserts that HAD been ordered but NOT delivered. The drinks we disputed had also been added to thier bill. I was really Irate, I wont ever go to one again. thier customer service is shocking and they blatantly try to rip people off, this is why its "better to have on big bill" because its easier to hide little additions you never ordered or had. Sorry that is quite a rant about one thing, but please be warned. Good restaurants though include Merlins Chinese Buffet, opoosite Parque Santiago II, Colon Beach in Puerto Colon and Miss Kitty's Showbar in Playa de Fanabe.

Overall Playa de las Americas is a rapidly changing resort. The area around the Mare Nostrum Resort is my favorite, especially at night. Americas Plaza and the Safari Centre look great lit up and the dancing fountains. It seems this kind of look is spreading as even the Veronicas Area is now pedestrianised and looks far more upmarket than I ever thought was possible. I would not hesitate to go back or tell friends and family to, it has something for everyone. Just make sure you get out and see more of the Island outside of the Las Americas/Los Cristianos areas.

“A Little Disappointing”

We stayed at the end of October and were disappointed with this hotel. Firstly we actually booked this via Cosmos through their Villas brochure expecting a two bedroom villa with pool. This wasnt the problem.

We arrived well after the designated check in time to be told our "villa" was not ready as it had two bedrooms and took longer to clean! Not ideal as we had been travelling for 13 hours by this time with two children aged 6 and 2. We were given a drinks voucher and pointed to the bar. However as this is a cashless resort we couldnt buy the children any lunch as our room account was not set up. The first drink of the holiday was given in a dirty glass, which was not a good start! We had to wait just under an hour for our room however it absolutely stunk of cigarrette smoke after it had been cleaned. By this time we were so tierd and just needed a shower I resorted to trying to "desmoke" the rooms by sparying deodrant everywhere. We advised reception who sent a maid the following day to reclean. However the smoke was in the curtains and bedspreads and despite advising reception they needed to be removed they didnt.

The kitchen area is very small and not practical and we ate out most nights. The pool was fine together with the outside terrace area. The furniture in the rooms was dated and we had two plug sockets hanging off the wall with bare wires which wasnt ideal with two young children. Overall we found the place to be a little shabby and in need of updating. I feel if they need to pay the same attention to the rooms as they did the outdoor areas.

Some reviews said it is a quite resort but we travelled in half term and unfortunately the pool was busy and with a large contingent of unruley children who thought constantly "bombing" and throwing each other in the pool was acceptable (or their parents did!) The life guard did try to sort them out on many occassion but perhaps spent far too much time in the kitchen eating than actually attending to the pool!

The on site shop is expensive and the cashless idea can be useful but with the shop and bar area both expensive it is not long before a large bill can be run up.

The only positive is the golf course literally across the road which my husband highly recommended.

Overall, disappointing and wouldnt recommend.
