“Good location, but very noisy!”

My husband and I stayed at this 'hotel' for 3 nights early February. The location is very convenient, in the middle of the busy shopping area. Circular quay and Darling Harbour are an easy walk away.
I have to agree with the comments below regarding the service at reception. Although I have no particular complaint, the staff there was not the friendliest .
The 1-bedroom apartment was very spacious for the two of us, we had everything we needed for our short stay. The furniture is as nice as it can be, not great quality, but I think this place is fairly new, so it still looks good. I was quite amused by the abundance of 'signs' about what you can and can't do in the apartment. (Although later on I found this a bit of a routine at other hotels in Australia as well.)
Having just arrived after a very long haul flight, the first night was comfortable. However, for the rest of the time, the noise level from the street became very disturbing. I did read previous reviews about this, but since I have lived in cities all my life, I am very used to traffic noise etc. therefore I didn't think this would be an issue. Unfortunately ambulances, fire engines, police were passing through many times during the night. It also seemed that most of the street musicians picked this corner and all the party crowd hung around this area, making it almost impossible to sleep.
For this reason I would not stay here again.

We stayed for two nights in a lovely apt. on the 42nd floor. However, after checking in we discovered that the airconditioning was not working and called the front desk. They said they would send someone up right away and we waited an hour and a half exhausted from our trip and just wanting to sleep so we called again. A maintanance man showed up and found that the compressor had been turned off so we finally did get some air even though it is confusing how to turn the units on. I had also asked the desk clerk earlier if they had anything I could use to make my American hair appliances to work with their outlets. He explained that they did not have anything but I could buy something for about $5 at the convenience store around the corner and told me how to get there. We returned with the unit and even showed it to him to make sure it would work and he replied "Yes". The next morning I used my $100+ professional flat iron and it burned out after several seconds!
I mentioned this to the front desk on my way back to the room that day and the clerk asked to see the appliance as he thought I should be compensated something for my loss. Luckily,he followed me to my room as my key did not work when we got there and he told me he would speak to his manager about the appliance. After another call to the desk as the airconditioning did not work AGAIN, this time due to a tripped switch, the desk clerk informed me that his manager did not feel they were responsible for my loss. She said that since "they did not buy the adapter and we did" , it was not their problem even though the clerk "approved" it!
The large rooms and the view can not make up for faulty airconditioning, bad room keys and management's poor attitude so I honestly can not recommend this hotel to other travellers at this time.

“Fab location and holiday”

We stayed at the Meriton Kent Street for 7 nights in early December 07.

We had a one bedroom aparrtment on the 38th floor. While we were high enough to see some of darling harbour through the buildings (a lovely strip of blue with white sailboats on it), it would have been great to have been higher. I would NOT have wanted to be on a lower floor as even on the 38th floor we could hear music from the street, car horns etc.

The apartments are lovely and I was genuinely surprised at the standard of the cleaning service. The daily "touch up" service is much more than that. They cleaned the bathroom, did our dishes, replaced linen and made the bed, amongst other things. To me, that was a full cleaning service - not a touch up. A nice surprise.

The location of the apartment is fabulous. 5 minute walk to Darling Harbour where you can hop on a ferry to almost anywhere, 2 minute walk to the train or monorail.

It is also right next to chinatown as well as many spanish restaurants for dinner or across the road from a supermarket and shopping centre (World Tower) so you can easily get food to cook for yourself.

There were a couple of issues with maintenance of the apartment - which has been noted by other reviewers. Our bathroom door didnt close proprerly, the clothes dryer didnt get hot and the fan in the bathroom didnt work. However, I didnt report these issues to reception as they didnt really impact my stay so I cant complain too much (we only tried to use the dryer once and we just showered with the bathroom door open anyway). They may have fixed it while I was there if I had told them.

I did complain about music once and security came right away, so that is good. We used the pool and sauna every day and loved having those facilities. The elevators were slow but we werent in any rush on holidays.

Overall - a good stay, great location and good facilities.

After faffing about on the hotels unbelievably slow website I booked four nights, then the web page disappeared at the point of confirmation and low, the reservation was lost and the cost went up by 50% with one night being totally unavailable. VERY unimpressive. The telephone team could not have been less helpful if they tried, which they didn't.

On arrival (9pm Sunday) reception was manned by three people, the one person who was actually helping customers was kept talking by a customer who was oblivious to the growing queue behind him. Finally another receptionist offered help.

Being charged $100 deposit for a key was a novelty I have not experienced before.

They forget to mention the ground floor is actually called floor 10!

The studio room had no view, well a brick wall!, but it was perfectly quiet and away from it all and fantastically well equipped in the kitchen, a laundry, ok bathroom, CD/DVD player, TV, phone etc The 'office' space was limited to sitting facing a wall in a corner and not possible to move with your own ethernet cable - the ones from reception (more deposits!) was a metre long.

I would stay, and am staying, there again only because of the location and facilities not because of the staff or service.
