I stupidly purchased through Scoopon a voucher for $149 for the Perfect Getaway for TWO People in a DELUXE Queen Room at the 4.5 Star Diana Plaza Hotel, CBD! Normally $452! Includes an extravagant Buffet Breakfast for TWO, a 2 Course Dinner for Two, Bottle of Wine on arrival, Late Checkout plus more! The photo of the hotel looked spectacular. Pity it doesn't actually look like that in real life. Upon arrival at the hotel we were informed that the restuarant to the hotel was booked out for a private function and that we would have to use the dinner voucher at a restuarant adjacent to the hotel called Bens. We weren't too fussed at this stage. The room was not exactly what we were expecting for a 4.5 star hotel. There was a stale odour in the room, paint was peeling off most of the walls, the bathroom looked like it had come out of the 60's. The bed was horrible. Not very comfortable. There was a very small TV in the bedroom, about 30cm and a little larger TV in the lounge. The sofa in the lounge was not very inviting. In fact, I didn't even dare sit on it. My husband had planned to watch a soccer game in the afternoon. He first attempted to watch it in the bedroom but the TV was so small you couldn't make out any of the players or see the score. We then tried the lounge but the TV wouldn't come on. We had to call for someone and after changing the cord and then the TV discovered that there was no working electricity on the whole wall where the TV was Once again, not what you would expect from a 4.5 star hotel. Not exactly sure where this rating comes from. We decided to go down to Southbank for the afternoon as staying in the hotel was not that appealing. We booked in for dinner and upon arriving at the restuarant provided them with the voucher for a 2 course dinner for 2. We were advised of what we could choose off the menu. We were told we could only choose one dish of pork, beef or chicken each. We asked what about the 2nd course dinner. The manager of the restuarant was called and we were were advised that the 2nd course was steamed rice. We were perplexed. We were under the impression that a 2 course dinner meant entree and main or main and dessert. We have never heard of the 2nd course being steamed rice. Anyway, the voucher only covered up to the value of $20 for 2 so that pretty much covered only the rice and the pork, beef or chicken dish. By the time we got back to the hotel, we felt extremely disappointed that our romantic night away was really not that romantic. We laid on the bed and within a few minutes decided that our own bed, only 20km away was a lot more appealing, so we decided to go home. Upon checking out we were asked if there was a problem and even though we said that we weren't satisfied, they really didn't do anything about it, not even an apology. Lesson learned, never ever book a hotel without knowing anything about it!
