With so many restaurants to choose from in Cairns, it is hard to know where to go but when I tried Bushfire Flame Grill (Brazilian inspired Australian food) for the first time recently, to say I was impressed is an understatement. There is certainly no restaurant like it in Cairns and from the time my really friendly and attentive waitress placed the crunchy pork crackle in front of me, I knew I was going to enjoy my dinner. Arriving early, we were given the option of having the Churrasco Express ($37pp) or the full Churrasco Experience ($46.50pp) – both options are all you can eat, which is ideal if you are really hungry. The full experience won us over. There are a range of meats to try including the beef contra file (lots of spices and flavours), beef picanha, pork with a Davidson plum and sweet chilli marinade (my favourite), lamb with a lemon myrtle, garlic and rosemary marinade, chicken hearts and Mareeba Gold pineapple dusted in cinnamon sugar. All meats are cooked on long skewers on a custom made grill and brought round to your table. My husband and I loved the meats and so did our kids, but the sides were also equally impressive – the sweet potato fries were a hit for all of us, but there was also really yummy mild chayote chilli buttered sweet corn, an Argentinean herb pesto and a homemade BBQ sauce. Even though we were so full from the endless supply of meat and sides that were offered to us, we managed to find some room to try a dessert – these really cute little bite size “pinchos”, perfect to end the meal ($4.50 for two). If you are looking for excellent value for money in a modern setting with great service, don’t go past Bushfire Flame Grill on the Cairns Esplanade. I can guarantee you will return again and again.
