I went with a friend and 4 teenage girls, 2 of whom were English, on the Bruny Island Cruise. We had a great day! We drove ourselves from Hobart & were impressed straight away that the company had obviously streamlined proceedings so that we had just the right amount of time to get the ferry from Kettering to Bruny, & then just the right amount of time to drive from North Bruny to Adventure Bay on South Bruny. Checking in & paying was efficient & cheerful, with time for a coffee & muffin before setting off. The boats take about 30 people, & 4 went on the day of our cruise. With so many people, once again we were impressed with the efficiency of the staff. Once on board & covered in our head to toe waterproof jackets provided by the company, we were all offered ginger tablets to ward off seasickness. As a motion sickness sufferer, I was especially pleased with this.
The tour itself took us to some amazing unspoilt scenery not accessible any other way, and ended up in the Southern Ocean. We saw many seals and sea birds, even some penguins but sadly no dolphins on our cruise.
Colin & Hugh were entertaining & knowledgeable crew/skippers who were also very attentive of the passengers, regularly checking if everyone was OK & being helpful to the one person who was nauseated. Their thoughtfulness extended to us being offered some cracker biscuits and Tim Tams towards the end of the trip as the cruise went over lunchtime.
The majority of the passengers were older people, & the staff did do some tricky stuff with the boat, but I did not hear a single complaint about it, only squeals of delight.
As far as the teenagers went, our girls were not at all bored & thoroughly enjoyed the day. They had fun on a boat they wouldn't normally go on, and found it educational as well.
