The Pensione Melbourne is located in Spencer St, near Casino, Telstra Dome, train station, etc. The rooms are quite small but very neat and clean. Bathroom is also quite small but adequate, no bath only a shower. The room was very reasonably priced. Taxi ride from airport is approx $45. Staff very friendly and helpful. Has a lockup storage room for your luggage. The only disadvantage is there is no parking outside the hotel, so if you have a rental car you have to park around the corner. I would definitely stay here again.

Pensione Boutique Hotel is a five minute walk from Spencer Street station and the Southbank, with tram stops outside (including the free City Circle tram).

This is a functional hotel for those people who plan to only use the hotel to sleep and nothing more. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom is very small and water goes everywhere but there was lots of hot water and good shower pressure - always important! The customer service from staff was underwhelming and we felt this really let the hotel down in terms of friendliness, approachability, and going that extra customer service mile.

The website promises a cafe downstairs - this does not exist and the brochure we picked up at the hotel says 'opening mid 2008'.

If returning to Melbourne I would pay the extra $20-$30 per night for a hotel with greater facilities and better customer service.

The Pensione was exactly what my partner and I were looking for. Clean, comfortable accommodation in the Melbourne CBD. We essentially needed a place to sleep in at night, as most of the day was spent sightseeing. We booked a petite double room, that was small, but well furnished and very clean. Our only issue was that our inward courtyard facing room did not receive much natural light, but really that's being picky. In comparison to other accommodations with similar prices, it far exceeded our expectations. We would definitely stay there again.

The cheapest self-rated 4 star and a spot on Getaway made this hotel seem good enough for a night in the city! We stayed in an original twin room for under $100. It was small, but clean and functional. The linen was quite new. Only problem on our side of the hotel was that we were outside the dumpster I think... at various points in the night there were noises going on out there, also the trains going over the bridge squeak a fair bit. Not terribly though! The windows in our room were frosted so you couldn't see anything out of them. Generally friendly overflow out the front of the hotel from the backpackers next door. Young, casual but knowledgable staff treated us fairly. Fantastic location for public transport!
