Selected this hotel for its good location. I was attending a business seminar close by. The room was much as expected the only problem was when I had to deal with staff on checkin and checkout.
My booking included breakfast. On checkin this was disputed but then agreed and I was handed vouchers for my stay - 4 days. No apology to which I thought maybe a rough day as they looked busy. Luggage was left as the room was not yet available. Suitcase was later retreived from the locked luggage room but no sign of my briefcase. This appeared from the unlocked office behind reception - I was told this was more secure - I wondered but all was ok.
On checkout I was verbally abused and told to pay for breakfast. Upon stating again that my booking included breakfast I was yelled at. I produced a second copy of my booking and was then told that it wasn't my booking so I had to pay. They then flashed by what they claimed was my booking. I noticed a different room rate so I offered to pay for breakfast if they gave me that room rate as it was cheaper than what I had paid. After again disputing what I had paid, desipe having it in front of them, they then agreed that my booking did include breakfast and was correct. No apology no nothing.
Incidentally I only used 2 of my 4 vouchers. The breakfast is adequate but service has no graces - rather clinical. No greetings not a single word to acknowlege your worthless existance.

After looking at various hotels in the area, we opted for this one as we were getting bogged down with the selection.

It was a good hotel in an excellent location. Rooms were large with big windows. Clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good, especially as we were on the buy 1 get 1 free option!

Would certainly recommend it to friends.

I hadn't stayed in a Travelodge before. This one is located in Southbank just back form the river and it's easy to get into the centre of Melbourne on foot. Additionally there are a number of nice restaurants just steps away along the river.

Room wise I found them to be rather drab and dark. A tiny window with little natural light meant when in the room I needed to have the lights on. It's not a hotel where you would want to luxuriate in your room but it's adequate and inexpensive.

Rooms have a small kitchenette with sink and microwave so you can fix your own light snacks.

The reception staff were friendly and obliging.

Had to be in Melbourne for a conference at Hamer Hall; chose this hotel as it's very close and had good reviews on TA. We stayed for 7 nights, and while it's not a "luxury resort", it's certainly good workable accomodation for people who have a busy schedule.

The room was quite spacious, queen bed, small table with two dining chairs, lounge and coffee table; plenty of room to go over paperwork or use a notebook. Another plus was the small kitchenette with kettle and microwave. Good sized bathroom, and plenty of hot water for the shower.

On the negative -

no free wi-fi; net access available but at 1c / kb with a day cap of $20. They do have 3 coin op PCs in the foyer - 10 minutes for $1, which worked fine except for the USB connection. It was possible, but very difficult, to do file transfers from a thumb drive.

there was a TV (with some FoxTel), but no radio (v.annoying)

Overall - great value (we paid A$135/night) and the location is hard to beat. Right next to Southgate (lots of good cafes and bars) and only a short walk from Fed Square, NGV, Botanical gardens, and the CBD.
