Fantastic location for visiting beautiful Perth. The free CAT buses stop right outside and there are plenty of restaurants, fast food places shopping malls and Barrack Street Jetty, Train and Bus stations within a few minutes walk. We looked at other apartments and hotels in Perth but after visiting for the first time in Nov 2007 we were pleased we'd chosen the HI. The CAT finishes at approx 6pm in the evenings and many other accomodations don't have the close vacinity to eateries and shops which would mean taxis or very long walks.
The staff were always helpful and very informative about the sights to see and the rooms were modern and clean. Would definately stay again if visiting Perth.

Tiny public areas, boxy high-static rooms, low-ceiling corridors, nothing could cheer us up in this depressing place. The "lounge" on the ground floor is so dark that you cannot see properly to read a book. In the end we even took to eating breakfast in the street rather than stay indoors. Staff very nice but the internal parts are desperately in need of better fittings and some sense of space. There is far too much furniture in the rooms. You cannot turn round without walking into something and the single beds are just about big enough for a nine year old child. Turn over and you are on the floor. The best that can be said is that it was clean and the location is useful.
Would never go there again. Not even if it was for free.

Very nice hotel within easy reach of everything needing reaching. The rooms were very comfortable and reasonably quiet except for the noise at the rear of the hotel by refuse collectors at night and in the morning. Got a bit busy at the weekend with aussie football supporters. Food and bar service excellent. Staff very helpful, courteous and polite. Got to the hotel via the airport shuttle at a cost of $A30 return.. Good service to and from the airport.. Used Gray Line tours at the corner of Hay and Pier Streets. Would recommend the Pinnacles, Margaret River and Wave Rock tours. Long Days but worth it. Would not recommend the Rottnest Island tour on a windy day in July (Aussie Winter) I was asked by the tour rep if I suffered from seasickness which I dont. However if you are in need of a laxative the shock of the crossing may do the trick. Not for the fainthearted. A very nice weeks holiday only spoilt by the rain ( and they say they need it)

This hotel is an excellent base for the business traveller or the tourist. It is very central, within walking distance of the railway station, barrack street jetty and the main shopping centre.
I was there on business and the facilities were very good. Internet access in the room which was very efficent. The room was spacious and very well maintained. The weather was cold but the room has an efficent heating system so I was happy.
Breakfast was very good and there was a great selection of fresh fruit. The food in Bar 88 is lovely however this resteraunt is very cold and I had to keep my overcoat on which was uncomforatble. (I noted that most people sat with their overcoats on)
I did have to manage my own luggage to the room which was no big deal as I travel light but this may be a problem to those that have a few bags.

I booked 2 rooms and stayed here with family. I wouldn't stay again. One of the rooms had a vile smell being omitted from the air conditioner. It smelled of foul sort of urine smell. I complained to the manager who agreed to move me but said that they had no similar rooms available.

They also overcharged me, but a quick phone call sorted that out.
