“Great Location, But Small Room”

Comfort Inn Wentworth Plaza

23 Apr 2008

Stayed there in a 2-bedroom apartment for 2 nights in Nov 07. For the price you can't get another hotel with better location. Murray St. mall is just across the street from this hotel and Northbridge is just a 10 min stroll away.

We were lucky to get a room facing inwards and hence very quite. No noise from the road or pub/restaurant.

We were not entirely happy with our apartment though. There were no windows and thus "no scenery viewing". The second bedroom was extremely small, about 10 ft by 10 ft. With 2 single beds in the room, you have only about one feet to move about. We even did not have space in the room to place our luggage, which had to be place on the corridor.

The bathroom cum toilet was quite spacious. However, the door did not come with a lock, so it could be a bit awkard. The kitchenette had useful utensils like microwave, toaster, fridge etc, but could be a wee bit small. The small 2ft by 2 ft table was only sufficient for 3 person.

The staff were very helpful and courteous. They patiently showed us the directions to the various places we wanted to go.

This hotel will definitely be a good choice for those who are looking for a value-for-money stay at a good location.

“Terrible room with a terrible view with a terrible excavation noise!”

I had a business meeting in Perth for Sunday and was booked into this hotel by the company that I do business with.

I had arrived at this hotel on Saturday afternoon.

The outside really looked very inviting with lots of people having an afternoon drink next door.

The foyer looked OK for what it was. Until I went to my room. I walked through the grey painted walls and narrow walkway to my room. The room was very untidy with some rubbish left on the floor and the toilet was dirty as well. The room was very bright with about 4 windows overlooking a baren excavation site with the jack hammer going hard at work and the glass on the windows vibrating. The whole room felt so sub standard.

I just picked up my bag and booked out of this place. I told the girl at the counter that the room is unacceptable and she just checked me out with out even trying to change me to another room!

I don't think that I will be there again.

“depends on your room”

Arrived after long flight, very late at night to mess up with room, we'd booked 3 nights but they had us down for 1 - they saw it was there fault and said not to worry although the chap on reception was hard to understand. There is a VERY lively pub next door that I thought was going to be a problem with sleeping if we were that side and inside the hotel corridors a few back packers hanging around in groups which again we aren't used to and are past that stage!

Room very basic with no view at all but clean with tea/coffee etc - showers bases are strange and drench the floor but lots of power! Didn't hear a sound from the bar. You get a card to get into your room and also to use the lift which is a good idea.

Out early next day after breakfast, sour faced lady in breakfast wanting money first, but breakfast was good if rather expensive. Arrived back at hotel to very nice receptionists and manager who had moved our things to different room (ref initial hotel booking error) and they said we'd be moved again the next day but rooms would get better and better and we'd been given complimentry breakfasts. Went to new room which was much better although still no view, all our things had been put EXACTLY how they were in the last room, someone had amazing memory!! Arrived back next day to next room which again all our stuff put out fine, this time room was very nice with great view!!! the room had sep kitchen and two bedrooms, much better bathroom.

Couldn't really fault the staff very helpful, if I had known I'd have booked a better room for the stay as was quite startled at the first one and wouldn't have wanted that for 3 nights. Lots of info and internet in reception. Some of the youngsters staying seem to in high spirits turning off lights etc.

Overall fine it's a Comfort Inn not the Ritz but book a good room

“Bed Bugs! Don't Let the Bed Bugs Bite!!!!”

I stayed at the Wentworth Plaza for 6 days. During my visit, I noticed numerous bites each day mainly on the inside of my arms. I didn’t understand how I was getting insect bites since I hadn’t been in the woods or outside at night. During my flight home, the bites became increasingly itchy and numerous. By the next day, I had over 45 bites covering my arms, neck, feet and ears which became extremely red and swollen. At this point, I was required to see my Doctor.

I did more research and concluded that the bites were from bedbugs: The pattern (3 bites in a row), the redness, itchiness and the location of the bites all indicate bedbug bites. I also learned that bedbugs have become a problem for many hotels, due to the increase in international travel, as well as the banning of DTT (which apparently was effective in controlling bedbugs). Due to the timing of the bites in relation to my stay at the Wentworth Plaza, I can only conclude that I got bitten during my stay. I wouldn't be writing this unless I was100% certain of where this happen. I wrote to management and they disclaimed any responsibilities and did not take my complaint seriously.

In addition to recovering from the bites, there was also the possibility that the bugs got into my suitcase and have been transported into my home. So I had to quarantine my luggage and then wash all my clothes immediately in hot hot water. What a nightmare.

Other than the bedbugs, I thought the location was great and loved the pubs downstairs. There is a huge construciton project across the street which is very noisy.

We were here two times and the space in the rooms can change. The first time we had a small room the second time a very spacious room (same price) There are two populair pubs in the hotel and you can sit outside to have your drink or meal. Staff is very helpfull. Clean rooms, good location so nothing wrong about this place.
