A classic example of a hotel where all the money has been spent on the reception and lobby areas to create the illusion of a grand hotel.
And with all that money spent on making the lobby ritzy, its not a surprise to find that not a cent has been spent on keeping the rooms clean and modern.
The rooms are large and have everything you need (fridge, minibar, tv, desk, bath, wardrobe etc), but the bed needed a new mattress (it always grosses me out staying at hotels with 'worn out' mattresses eeeewwwww), and the room was in desparate need of a clean, preferably a makeover and some decent lighting. The carpet had stains all over it, and the top of the desk was filthy.
The location was also very ordinary - Construction sites next door and across the road dont make for peace and quiet (or nice views from the window), and there are better options a little closer to the mall & underground train station.
I got off to a good start with the service - I arrived at 9am and a room was already ready so I didnt have to put my luggage in storage. But it went downhill quite quickly - the bill for the drinks at the downstairs bar arrived before the drinks did, and the room service phone number rang out. In-room breakfast is ridiculously expensive ($25 for cereal, toast, vegemite & juice)
Would I stay here again? Only if there wasnt anything else available, but it wouldnt be my first choice.
