“One of the best, if not the best, option in Perth!”

Sheraton Perth Hotel

17 Jun 2008

I travel back and forth to Perth (in bursts) for business, so am interested in business quality hotels with appropriate amenities and don't want to deal with too many issues from a hotel.

The new Executive Rooms at the Sheraton Perth are PERFECT! Everything is just as you'd want it, and the overall hotel service is great. For example:
* The rooms are large (I was actually judging how one could fit an entire 1-bedroom apartment into one of their rooms...the bathroom was as big as my master bedroom at home!)
* There is a large desk with wireless internet access (it would be nice if it was free, but no hotels do that it seems)
* Room service was fast, fast, fast and hot with good options (and they accommodated my strange omelette request)
* TV is large, flat and the remote actually works
* Breakfast in the Executive Club is wonderful - more than I could want to eat...
* The Shertaon bed....better than the Westin Heavenly Bed if you ask me!
* Overall service is great and very friendly!

When I had an issue with a fuse being blown in the room, maintenance came up in minutes and it was sorted quick smart.

As for other posts about the common areas being 'tired' and the rooms nothing special, my thoughts are the common areas are just fine - certainly better than the Hyatt or Novotel, which are the other East Perth options. As for the rooms, I've stayed in the non-Executive rooms and they aren't as swish as the Executive ones, but they are certainly better than the Hyatt where I was shocked at the quality, service and cleanliness of the entire affair.

I'd stay at the Sheraton Perth again in a heartbeat, and will do so on my next trip out (whenever that may be).

“Overpriced and overrated”

Sheraton Perth Hotel

Staff seemed friendly and helpful.

Public areas all seemed ok although beginning to look a little outdated.

Great location.

Room price is very steep for a very basic room.

Room negatives:

-Room was small with outdated decor and furniture
-All soft furnishings could have done with an update
-Bathroom disappointing-small and useless shower with no power, so washing hair was a problem. Shower panel had a large gap in it which meant water went all over the floor
-Chips in walls and around door
-No opening window-understand this is tricky due to health and safety but being able to open it slightly would have been good
-Generally looked very basic and tired

I'm sure that the upgraded rooms are far more pleasant but you'd still expect a half decent looking room at the lower end of the scale.

I've always been pleased with previous stays at Sheraton hotels and this hasn't put me off, as I'll be visiting another in August (paying extra for upgrade this time) but I wouldn't book this hotel unless you can afford to upgrade to a suite or exec room, which from the photos seem far more pleasant.

I booked 11 executive club rooms through the hotel direct for a staff management retreat. Had issues before we even set foot throught the front door. The hotel was not willing to include a space for us to debrief for 15 mins before departing for our daytime activities..."Can we use the executive club??? "No".. "Can I pay to upgrade my room to a 1 bedroom exec and debrief in the lounge area"..."No those rooms are not available, we suggest you debrief your 21 people in the hotel foyer!" Finally after feeling like i was asking for the hotel to give me their first child they accomodated us in a meeting area. Not a good start after booking 11 of their highest standard rooms!

Check in was a debarkle - two of our team were given a 1 bedroom suite upgrade, not me who was footing the bill and was the only starwood member??? Sorry, didn't the group booking coordinator tell me those rooms were not available before we arrived?????

Disorganised and very unpleasant front of house Manager. We attempted to be pleasant, we believe you give what you get until he told us he disliked the public and the fact he has to smile at guests sometimes he just would like to tell to [--] off!!!!! Whoaaaaa. I know we are quite down to earth and accepting but that is totally unprofessional and unacceptable customer service.

We returned late in the day to get ready for pre dinner drinks and dinner. Rooms have had a recent refurb but in a very 70's lost in space busy look. Not plush or relaxing. Television reception was poor. Overall rooms were dark and lacked warmth.

We proceeded to the club where evening drinks and canapes were being served. Most of our group were already seated. Table service was slow - probably due to it being Saturday night. When one of our team bought over a bottle of sparkling wine from the self serve counter they were stopped and told to put it back as they would lose their liquor licence???? There were 8 people of the group wanting a glass of sparkling. Next thing we know they have run out of sparkling wine and we noted another group had two bottles sitting on their table. Due to the embarrising service and lack of respect we were given I then attempted to order a paid round of cocktails for the team. The response to this was they would have to obtain them from the bar downstairs and due to the evening drinks close off in half an hours time they could not guarantee we would get them in time so they would not take any orders??? I though the club was open 24hours???? As a group of predominately middle aged professional individuals we were made to feel like a group of 17 year olds.

We went to a restaurant outside the hotel called C Restaurant where service and food was of the highest international standards. Go there if you are seeking a great dining experience.

After dinner some of the team attempted to order a midnight snack from room service. This experience was laughable and reeks of cheap hotel chain. They said the kitchen was closed but they had some stir frys they could reheat and deliver. No club sandwiches or wedges or anything else???? Don't know what the health regs are on reheat of food but the group refused the offer and asked if they could get some white/yellow pages to dial a pizza. Phone books were delivered - White pages from Tasmania and Yellow pages from Adelaide??? Well after several belly laughs that a Perth 5 star hotel cannot bring the right phone book they gave up on their late night snack and waited for the breakfast buffet in the exec club.

Sunday morning and there were not enough tables for the amount of people. They also did not have enough food to feed the amount of people in the club. I waited 25 minutes for some scrambled eggs and hash browns to be replaced at the buffet. Joined a que of about 20 to make a self serve coffee and stood around with my plate waiting for a table. No assistance was offered by staff and i witnessed lots of complaining and unhappy customers.

Come on Perth please open a true 5 star hotel where guests can be assured of some level of comfort and service. This experience was incredibly bad and I would not reccommend this hotel to anyone.

“Enjoyed the Sheraton Perth”

Sheraton Perth Hotel

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel which was the second time I have stayed at the Sheraton Perth - the location was great, I had a lovely view of the river from my room and the quality of the furnishings and lovely bathroom met my expectations.

The buffet breakfast was particularly impressive with a massive choice. Also I enjoyed the hotel bar downstairs - they made great cocktails.

The attitude of the staff was lovely.

If I went to Perth I would stay at this hotel again and would recommend it to my friends.

Had a nice and quiet holiday in Perth. Sheraton is near the Swan, although the views were not very good due to construction. Walking distance to city centre and king's park. Good location. Short ride from the airport. The rooms are very ornate, in an old fashion way. Nice, but not my taste, as I like a more temporary look and feel. Tried the breakfast buffet at the hotel restaurant, it was pricey and not worth the cost. The deluxe continetal breakfast is filling and less expensive, if on a budget this is the better choice. Front desk personnel are very accommodating, I arrived late. It was very nice to be received so warmly at that hour of night. Room service is very fast, which is great. The only problem I had is when they messed up my order twice, but they quickly fixed their mistake. It may be due to the phone system being old? It was hard to hear and there's a little crackling on the line. I'd stay here again. Word to the wise, Perth is better explored with a rental car.
