I had to go back onto Expedia.com to check this was actually the hotel I booked, because I felt sure that the nice pictures I looked at when booking reflected something much nicer than this! How they rate it a 3-star hotel I don't know. I'm glad it was just hubby and me staying for one night, I would have been embarrassed taking visitors there.
As we walked along the corridor looking for our room, we had this feeling things weren't going to be good, it was clearly much older and more run-down than we were expecting. Inside the room there were 3 single beds (we'd booked a queen bed) but reception were unable to change rooms for us as they said they were fully booked and we should take up any complaints with expedia. We debated checking back out, but didn't want to risk not finding anywhere to stay at such short notice, so reluctantly decided to stay put.
The carpets were shabby, with holes and bare patches. The furniture and fittings were badly in need of being upgraded. Tacky plastic chairs, yuk. The TV was old and some of the remote buttons didn't work. I didn't fancy sitting on the bed as I wondered how long it had been since the quilts had been washed (at least the sheets were clean). Didn't put any clothes in the wardrobe because of the smell, but wouldn't have been able to hang much anyway with just 2 coathangers there. The tea/coffee making facilities were minimal. It took nearly an hour to fill the bath as the tap was badly clogged with limescale. The shower only provided barely warm water. We couldn't get the balcony door to unlock and open and were concerned this could be hazardous in the event of a fire. Kept awake at night with various noises, like machinery running.
The room was supposed to be a "riverview". We could just make out a glimpse of the river, some distance away over the car park.
We only wanted a room for one night, somewhere to change for an evening out, then the following day spent in Perth, without having a long drive back home. We were reluctant to spend $$$ on a more luxurius hotel, knowing that we wouldn't be using any of the facilities on offer. However this has reminded us that in future we will have to take more care with our bookings and will probably end up having to spend extra to get something more modern, clean and comfortable.

“Good Value!!!”

Metro Hotel on Canning

My boyfriend and i were not expecting much from this hotel as we only paid $99 a night (on a last minute hotel website). However we were very pleased with the hotel room. We stayed in a Standard Riverview room on the 3rd floor. This included a queen size bed and a single bed. The room was a decent size, clean and had everything in good working order. The best thing about the room was the view. We had an amazing view of the Perth skyline which was also viewable from the location of our bed. The private balcony was also a nice added touch. For the $99 dollars we also got 5 foxtel channels which included 2 movie channels. We also got free tea and coffee satches and complementary milk. What a bargain! I was shocked to read the bad reviews from others on here as our experience was really good. Even the room service was good. I ordered a steak burger with chips and salad for only $14.50. This was lovely and was delivered in a timely manner. Staff were also very polite. For those who dont like to order room service, there are few fast food establishments nearby. The hotel also has food vending machines on site. My only negative view of the hotel would be the the outdated & poorly lit cafe area in the lobby. Overall this hotel was good value for money and i would definately stay here again.

We booked this hotel through our agent. We had seen it on the web and it looked very nice. When we got there we were told we were not allowed to check in until 2pm although it stated 10am on our forms. The front desk girl was very rude and extreamly unhelpful the entire trip. The rooms had a foul smell and the walls were stained as well as the carpet. All the furniture had chips taken out of it also. We were paying over $120 a night and it was absolutly appauling. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Is this really a Hotel ?”

Metro Hotel on Canning

2 Feb 2008

I don't know if we are just destined for bad luck, but this place that is supposed to be hotel, just isn't, not in our opinion anyway.

We arrived and were given a twin room, this may have been a minor error but it wasn't a very good start. Even if it was the right room, there is no way we would have stayed in it anyway. It was dirty, there were holes in the linen, there was no skirting on the walls and so the carpet was fraying at the edges, the bath was filthy, there was marks on the walls and the ceiling, the bedroom had ultra bright strip lighting and no lamps. But like I say it wasn't our room. So we we were given the number of our room after calling the reception. from the 9th floor. We were asked to come down and collect the key for the new room on the 8th floor, mmmmm........!

After the reception had brought the key to us, we lugged our cases down stairs and found a room just like the room we just left, bar the fact it had a double bed.

Briefly to add the rest of the details of our gripes for this hotel hostel, whatever it is.

Room service incurred a $4 delivery charge....eh? Thats that all about.
The internet is $10 an hour.
When the washing machine broke down, we were told that we would have to leave our details with the machine manafacturers and wait until we got home to London to get our $3 back.

House keeping came in unannounced regardless of the fact that the 'do not disturb' sign was on the door...............three times !

This isn't a hotel and cannot believe that it has 4 stars on the sign at the front.
I have stayed in hostels far better than this and even hotels that charged less than the $100 that it charged us.

Better luck next time.
