The only positive thing I can write about this hotel is its location. That's it! It's not value for money considering it's not very cheap to stay (about $155/night). It claims that it is a 3 star hotel. It would be very lucky to get a 2 stars for our experience.

We went out for a tour in Perth during a day whilst still checked in the hotel. We left the morning and went back at night. When we went back, my wife's luggage was missing. We called reception who asked us questions as to possible places where the luggage could've been put in the room, which I thought was silly as we wouldn't call them for their assistance if we haven't done an initial search ourselves. I went down to the reception and gave a description of my wife's luggage. Whilst doing so, I received a call from my wife who said that her international roaming mobile phone was also missing. We also realised that my phone charger was also missing. Whoever took it probably thought it was the charger for the mobile phone that he took! He took the wrong charger for the phone he took. As we were set to check out the next morning, and the receptionist unable to do anything, I was asked to do a police report, which I did.

The next morning, I called the reception and asked if there's anything that they've found. I was asked to go down and they showed me a luggage and asked if it were my wife's missing luggage. And it was! They said that it was found in the hotel's fire exit. It was opened, but fortunately, none of my wife's clothes was missing. As to the mobile phone and the phone charger, they were no longer found. Although nothing was missing in the luggage, it's a traumatic experience going through this experience. (This is the first time ever I've experienced this in a hotel!) There's also a question about the hotel's security, as their camera surveillance are not working!!! I learnt the there have been plans of closing down the hotel and hence no more re-furbishing is being done.

Before I checked out, I was told that they (hotel management) will be giving me a call, and if the mobile phone would not be located, would be reimbursing its cost. Unfortunately, till today (4 weeks after), I still haven't been contacted.

“Great View”

The New Esplanade Hotel

8 Apr 2008

This is a quirky place. The deluxe rooms are on the higher floors and have great views of the river. These are big rooms which are well equipped.

I really liked it but..

It is privately owned, so service is a bit quirky. Generally good, but when we left a do not disturb sign up they phoned to ask when we wanted our rooms cleaned, with a definite undertone of "Right now would be a good response".

Cleaning was also a bit haphazard, but not enough to complain about.

But the view made up for everything.

I was just in perth and stayed two nights at the new esplanade,
I just walked around and found it..
It's very basic no frills and suitibable if you're not picky...
maybe notch above a backpacker hang out.........
I actually stayed at a backpacker place called the emperor's crown..........one night in shared for 25.00 and a couple of nights in a private room shared bathrooms for 88.00 a night.......... I actually like this place better, it's well managed, clean ( somewhat new) and is just on the other side if the tracks from the city center......I must say my hostel days are long over, but I didn't mind the private room......
back to the new esplanade............
it's passable and the price isn't too bad at 110.00 per night.......
but it's no luxury stop........

“On its last legs”

The New Esplanade Hotel

19 Feb 2008

Staying on business in Perth, this week. Was booked in this hotel by client as there was nothing else available. You might want to avoid this hotel as it looks like the owners are just squeezing the last dollars out of it before shutting it down. My comments;

the bad
- building - was renovated many many years ago
- staff - just not interested
- coridors - carpet too filthy for words
- room - quite dirty - windows show severe wear with draft coming through the gaps - bathroom - leaking tap - worn out fittings with crude sealer applied - mould on tiles - old and worn furniture - it is just totally worn out and the owners obviously cant be bothered with anymore maintenance - the views are ok but nothing brilliant - and how about pounding music from events right outside on the esplanade till 11 pm?

the good - good breakfast and the price is cheap but I would rate it 1 star and have stayed in similar priced but much much better motels nearby

avoid....

First of all I stayed in this hotel because my Daughter and I were visiting Perth without my Husband so I wanted something central and where I could self cater. That and the great view across the Park to the River are the only redeeming features of this hotel.

We came to Perth from the Goldfields of WA where the April temperatures were still around 25-30 degrees celcius during the day and 15 - 20 degrees at night, Perth temperatures for April though are quite a bit lower. This was the first problem I encountered, the room was FREEZING, I turned on what I thought was a reverse cycle airconditioner but only cool air came out, no heat. I called the front desk to tell them the heater was not working and they told me that although it was reverse cycle it was controlled centrally by management and it wasn't time to switch it over to heat yet, despite night time temps getting down to about 8 degrees! I asked if they had a portable heater I could use in my room but they did not. So for the 5 days we were there, every day after sightseeing we would come back to the room, eat our evening meal, have a really hot shower to warm up and then get into bed.

In the mini bar fridge there were drinks that had mould around the lids. It was obvious that the maid hadn't looked in there for months let alone cleaned it at all.

The windows had packing tape around the edges, I didn't peel the tape back to inspect so I do not know what the tape concealed; cracks? broken seals?

There were very loud banging mechanical sounds at all hours, our room was at the end of the hall so I presume these noises where from the building next door?

The bathtub had cracked mouldy seals.

This was a $160.00 "Deluxe" room.

I agree with the other reviewer who said this Hotel is NOT 3 stars, 2.5 if it is lucky. I would have to be really desperate for somewhere to stay to return there.
