“Big hotel with great facilities”

InterContinental Burswood Resort

We stayed in the Burswood for three nights following a flight from Dubai.

First impressions were good; the atrium lobby area is vast and quite impressive with 'sails' suspended across the ceiling (at night these are lit by everchanging coloured lights). Check in was quick and easy and we were soon in our floor 9 Club Room. The room was very pleasant with fabulous views and a big comfortable bed; sad to say there was no balcony which we would have loved given the balmy night air and great view.

Thje bathroom was unusual in that it had sliding windows opening to the bedroom but we liked this as it also gave us the view when we were bathing; there was a separate shower. The TV was of the older style but it was absolutely fine by us, we didn't go there to watch TV! There were renovations going on on the floor below us but they did not affect us in any way.

The facilities of the hotel are fab: the pool is large and beautiful, the grounds extensive and well kept, there is a golf course and, I assume, many other sporting activities. We hired two hotel bikes for a ride along the river to south Perth and they were good quality and the ride was level and easy with no traffic at all on the riverside track. The hotel also has a Casino and Night club but we did not use these.

We ate in the Chinese restaurant and enjoyed the food there. The Club lounge was comfortable and provided free internet access (this is charged for in the bedrooms). From the lounge there were extensive views over the river to Perth, we went here each evening for pre-dinner drinks and canapes (dissapointed by no spirits, so no G & Ts!) and we also had breakfast here. The cooked breakfast was not good (kept about too long) but the fresh fruit and continental breakfast was great. Maybe the Atrium restaurant might have offered a better cooked breakfast.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Burswood and would return, probably for a longer stay. We thought the position of the hotel was good as we prefered the quieter setting outside the main city.

“Perfect for the Casino”

We stayed for two days in April due to it's proximity to the Casino (Same complex). It is however some distance away from the city and the beaches so if you need a base for an extended stay, maybe something in the city would be better.

We had no problems with our stay, valet parking was effortless, the concierge's were pleasant and efficient and check-in took only minutes. The rooms was clean and well appointed, high speed internet, cable TV all the things you expect for a 4 star hotel.

The pool and grounds are excellent and there are plenty of restaurants and bars associated with the hotel and the casino. We found the Casino a little dissapointing, too many machines and not enough tables.

It is a great place to stay for the Casino, Conferences, Shows and Sporting events at the Burswood Complex but not for an extended stay.

“Well looked after from start to end”

InterContinental Burswood Resort

15 Feb 2008

We stayed at the Burswood for Valentines Day. We utilised the valet parking and the car was unpacked and our cases delivered to the room quickly and efficiently.

Check in was quick and easy.

The room was lovely although some evidence of age, but very clean and cool air-con.

A minor problem when we emptied the bath and the floor drain in the bathroom started leaking water. We rang reception and maintenance came up quickly and recitifed the problem and arranged housekeeping to clean up the bathroom and replace the towels.

Had dinner in Victoria Station and was very pleasant, if not a little expensive for the fixed price valentines day menu.

Next morning had breakfast in the Atrium, Range of food was extensive, but given the price I think next time we will opt for room service for around the same price.

Check out was also efficient. A porter met us at reception, took our bags and loaded them back in the car. By the time checkout was complete we hopped into our packed car and departed.

Overall very pleasant, shame about the bathroom flooding but I think this is still one of the better hotels in Perth.

“Such poor standards and service for 4 star prices - huge dissapointment”

InterContinental Burswood Resort

We booked two hours prior to check in. We paid $385 mid week for level 9 for one night - we were not told until we arrived that there were renovations taking place until 9pm on the floor below us - think saws grinding through cement and then being woken at 7am by hammers. The room was very dated, the decor def not 5 star - i'd struggle to give it 4 stars - the TV was old, the robes terribly tatty (i was appalled by them), there were people complaining in line at the atrium restaurant when we went down and the service at atrium was very cold. Greeted at check in with a "yes". Our complaints re noise in room were not met with any concern - as though as they had our booking they no longer cared about our experience. We were told we were to be checking out at 1pm, however we were called at 11:00 to be told it would be extra $30 per hour - we had to press the point not to be charged - this phone call also woke us up. The bed was hard and not at all pleasant. I left feeling more tired than when I arrived ... a most unpleasant stay - and for the money I felt really cheated. The Rydges is less stars but far superio to the burswood. How the burswood can consider their rooms and service 5 star is ridiculous. I wrote to HR who apologised and offered us a room at 50% off for another stay, but I wasn't prepared to spend any more money at the resort. I think i would struggle to return if it was offered for free - however under the circumstances this is the only thing that would have left me feeling compensated by the hotel as they should have told us about the rennovations prior to booking that day as we would have chosen somewhere else to stay.

“Great place to stay.”

InterContinental Burswood Resort

29 Jan 2008

This hotel is great.
A club spa room on the 8th floor provided great views over the river and city. Being young, it is a great place to spend a weekend. With a theatre, stadium, bars, club, casino and a range of restaraunts we barely needed to leave the complex. The room was clean, the view was great and there was plenty of space. The bed was comfy and room service a tad pricey but good quality. There is a health club area downstairs with 2 pools and 2 spas, with sauna and steam room and all was nicely presented (the outdoor pool a tad cold though). A small gym, but with good equipment, and most machines with foxtel. We had dinner at Siroccos restaraunt located beneith The Holiday Inn hotel, next to the theatre. Excellent quality food and value was provided in a modern setting, the service was young, vibrant and friendly (the dessert was the highlight though).
We traveled into the city from the nearby train station...i think it only took us around 7-10mins. But the night that we traveled into the nightclub area of the city we took a taxi that was quick and easy from the front of the hotel.

All in all a great place to stay. Just a little pricey.
