We thoroughly enjoyed staying 2 nights at Tarlton's Lodge. Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated, thoughtful extras were included, like a variety of glasses, bath robes, tourist brochures. Sitting in the spa on a warm, balmy night overlooking the Bay of Islands with a glass of wine was perfect. Our room was quiet and private with our own entrance. Breakfast outside our room overlooking the Bay was fresh and tasteful. We didn't see anyone else who was staying. Mike's house upstairs is stunning. You definitely need a car though if you're staying there. Mike was friendly and helpful, his dogs were pampered and beautiful. A fabulous place to stay.

Room tip: Probably rooms 1 or 3, rather than the middle one.

My wife and I travelled to northern New Zealand for a few days and we stayed at Tarlton's Lodge. We could not have been any happier with our decision. Our host, Mike, was excellent. Upon our arrival, he offered excellent tips on the local attractions and how to get around. There were two other couples right next to us during our stay, but we did not see them at all. Mike was kind enough to make breakfast for us, which included cereal, cut fresh fruit and orange juice. Last but not least, we had our own hot tub! We certainly enjoyed our visit and would not hesitate to return.

Great views. Very well appointed. Great lounge chairs. A variety of wine glasses and even a champagne stopper! Fabulous base for the Bay of Islands. Mike's recommendations and advice were spot on. Really appreciated all aspects of this accommodation.

We began our New Zealand holiday at Tarlton's Lodge and could not have found a better place to do it. We stayed for three nights and were spoilt by Mike, our host. Such a friendly and helpful host. We had a delicious breakfast on our balcony each morning while taking in the most spectacular view. Mike was great to chat to, he had a wealth of knowledge Our room was lovely and having our own hot tub on the balcony was "special". Would recommend to anyone. A very special place to stay, so peaceful and serene.

Room tip: All good, every room has same view.

We recently just had a 3 night stay here as part of our honeymoon and our first trip to New Zealand an could not fault it at all. Mike was absolutely wonderful to deal with, so friendly and always willing to have a chat and let us know of things to do whilst on our trip. The view was absolutely amazing and we definitely took advantage of the patio spa which overlooked the water. Although during our stay there were couples in the other 2 rooms we never heard or saw them during our stay which made us feel special as the silence was blissful and romantic. The breakfast prepared for us on our patio every morning was delicious and could not fault it one bit. This truly was the most romantic place to stay yet so close to the town to explore during the day. We are already planning our next trip back!
