If you need to stay in New Plymouth this would appear to be the best of the best, we drove past others we had considered and none looked as special nor were in such a good location as One Burgess Hill.
The view is fantastic, overlooking the river and reserve, very quiet other than river noise too. The apartments are modern with a contemporary finish, we stayed in a one bedroom apartment at the end of a row, it was reasonably private from our neighbours, had wonderful sliding doors opening onto a lawn area, a firebox, comfortable couches, small table and small kitchen.
Pros - quiet, really clean, view, decor, fire place, bath, location
Cons - only con is it's 4 star plus by motel standard not exclusive accommodation standard, so no bath robes, only 2 towels, basic kitchen etc, but the view and other aspects meant it didn't matter - we loved it.
Shame on you - we booked on wotif, one bedroom apartment for $170 per night, is advertised on wotif as discounted from $220 per night yet we found out later on the One Burgess Hill website the Rack Rate is $170 per night. Other rooms are also advertised on wotif as if discounted also when not at all! This false advertising left a slightly bitter taste once we found out. We use wotif whenever accommodation doesn't have their own online booking system and have never come across this before.

Rooms were excellent. Clean, roomy with amazing views over the creek below. It is a ten minute drive from the town central so it is worth stocking up any grocery needs before you get there because once you have checked in you will want to stay and relax. our plans for further exploring evaporated once we arrived. Instead we opened some excellent NZ wine and relaxed the afternoon away sitting outside the room and taking in the views..

As one person wrote in their review " You know that you have chosen the right place to stay, when you drive down the drive to the motel" The scenery & tranquility of this place is amazing. We were greeted by the hosts Hamish & Andrew, who made us feel straight at home. Our studio room was just awesome, with a large bath tub, beside the bed, looking out to the spectacular view of the river and native bush. The bathroom was really modern and we had excellent kitchen facilities. The motel is situated about 5 to 10 mins from the centre of town, yet you feel away from the bustle of the city. My husband and I have travelled and stayed in alot of places in the North Island of NZ and this would have to be one of the best. We highly recommend this place and would definately stay here again.

I've stayed here a few times now on my travels with work, and I would have to say that this is one of my favourite places to stay still.
As soon as you drive into the driveway, the experience starts. The owners are friendly and I've always found them very friendly.
The rooms are modern and comfortable with everything you need. I had a room that was situated upstairs with the lounge and dining area down stairs. Full cooking facilites are available with a bar fridge. There are other rooms available that are studio style set-ups that are also modern and comfy. Broadband internet access is available for $10 if needed.
There is chilled food/drink/desert available from the owners if you are not wanting to venture into town for a meal. New Plymouth is a 5 - 8 minute drive north and it would be advisable to pre-book a restaurant as it can get busy in town, or you can bring groceries back for the evening and enjoy the stunning views.
There is a large sliding door with scenic views of the native bush and a river below. The only noise you will hear is the river flowing.
Overall, this is a superb place to stay, very relaxing and well worth it for holidays or the business traveller like myself, but if you want to walk everywhere (and don't have transport) and be in the heart of town, then this maybe not for you. Otherwise this is a must stay!
