“Nice Rooms but a bit Small.”

The hotel was an old bank but was recently refurbished into a 50 room hotel. There were a lot of stairs and you couldn't go to every level by lift so you had to walk up and down a bit. A family member got hurt on the stairs lugging the bags down. The room was brand new but was very small. There was no table, no cupboards, (some racks instead) a small but clean bathroom and small but comfy double beds. Their is no on-site parking, but valet parking is available for just $10 a day. Some "not-so-nice" looking establishments across the road but close to all the attractions. Dined at Relish (the hotel restaurant) and had a nice meal. Very good value.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel on a Friday and Saturday night, during the long Labour weekend.

We checked in Friday night about 9.30pm. There were no hotel carparks left in the hotel so we had to park our rental car on the street. We didn't mind the inconvenience and the receptionist was really apologetic about the fact that there were no carparks.
She told us she had had a rough night as a number of customers had come to reception complaining about the lack of parking or the size of their rooms (ie too small).

The room we stayed in was on the 6th floor. The receptionist told us our room was one of the bigger 'luxary' rooms in the hotel, but my partner and I thought when we saw it that it was pretty small and we couldn't see how our luxary room would set itself apart from a standard room, as the room we were in (603) was pretty basic.

In terms of size, the bathroom had an over the bath shower and toilet and a miniscule vanity. Could only really fit one person in the bathroom at anytime (two people couldn't brush their teeth in the bathroom at the same time). The room itself had a king size bed, closet near the entrance door and desk fitted along the wall.

I would say that if you don't plan on spending alot of time in your room than it might suit your purpose. That being said though, you could probably get a better deal in terms of price from another hotel. The upshot is I didn't think we got good value for money from this hotel. I didn't think it was worth what we paid.

Positives: It looks like the hotel has been refurbished in the last 18-24 months. Located close to Casino and shopping (5-10 minute walk). Staff are nice.

Negatives: Small rooms (the room we stayed in definately didn't look like the ones on their site), weird corridors and had to catch a lift to 6th floor and than take some stairs back down a small flight of stairs to get to room. No good if you have lots of luggage.

“Noisy Hotel with Small Rooms”

Of all the hotels we stayed on our 3 week trip to New Zealand this was the most disappointing. The room was tiny and as the hotel has busy roads running either side of it and no double-glazing it was very noisy.

We stayed here for 2 nights and our room wasn't cleaned or attended at any point

The main areas of the hotel had a nice feel to them although the rooms are definately overpriced, particularly as this was the only place we stayed where GST tax wasn't included in the quoted price - so beware!

We arrived and the staff was very helpful. The hotel is not a huge hotel so the staff is very warm and hospitable. They helped us choose events for the afternnon and even called to book them. The neat part is that they have the original elevator of the building. It is an old time one where you close the gate, then close the door. It is quite cool! Rooms are very modern and nice. The bathroom is great. The location is perfect and close to everything in Dunedin. When we were leaving our ride did not show. They hurriedly called a cab so we could make our tourbus. They were soo helpful and it was a great hotel. We would stay again. It was as comfortable as being at home..very clean, etc.

“OK for one night”

Stylishly renovated and friendly staff but noisy rooms - both road noise and noise from other rooms. For example, we heard the 5 am wake up call for quite possibly all the rooms (a group was staying) on our floor. The location is not great - it's in a run-down part of town and the shortage of parking is a problem for late arrivals.

It's fine for just one night but for those on business or staying longer I suspect you could do better elsewhere.
