“Aurum Apartments - Great. A-Line Hotel Rooms - Dreadful”

I was booked into this hotel by a tour operator and nearly cried when I seen the room. The paintwork was dirty and chipped with worn and stained bed covers; it was what I would have expected from a poorly kept B&B back in the 70’s. It does have to be said that the staff where welcoming and there was no issue with cleanness.

I complained to the tour operator as I had paid for a hotel but was not getting a hotel standard room and the next night I was upgraded to one of their Aurum Suite’s which was wonderful. I find it bizarre that a hotel with apartments of this standard can also have rooms that are of such need of refurbishment.

So, if you are staying at this hotel ensure you are booked into the Aurum side and not the A-line.

Very close to the road and no double glazing so you get all the heavy traffic noises all night long.
Expensive continental breakfast NZ$16
Pillow menu advertised, staff didn't seem to know about this, eventually managed to deliver one feather pillow not two!

Stayed here for a couple of nights whilst travelling around the South Island.

We stayed in the main hotel and also a little chalet and both were clean and comfortable with nice views. The rooms were a little tired and dated.

Checking in was very painless but checking out on a Sunday morning was v.painful and we could have missed our shuttle bus if it were not for a very patient driver!

It is quite a steep walk up the hill, but kept us fit.

I'm not sure if I would stay here again, as the Novotel was quite cheap and much more luxurious but not so great on the views, but it depends what you prefer.

We arrived here expecting more than we got as the hotel is split into 2. There is a 3 star side and a 5 star side - be careful which you book!

We were given a room which was right next to the reception and drive and we were concerned about the noise so asked to be moved. The staff were very helpful and moved us away from the main building. The room was fine - standard 3 star motel room but we were woken every night by teenagers partying around us. Due to the price the hotel is affordable to groups.

If you want guaranteed quiet and sleep choose the 5 star side.

The room was fine, breakfast good and good value and good location for the town and various activities.

The Hotel is a series of chalet type rooms. We were lucky enough to have a room overlooking the lake. The rooms are large, clean and tidy but a little basic. However the location and views make this some what irrelevant.

The hotel is located on a steep hill and a busy main road. Also our room did not have any airconditioning.

Queenstown is simply magnificent. The highlight was a mountain top champagne picnic on our own.

But also do go on the luge, shot over jet boat and TSS Earnslaw and must visit minus 5 ice bar.

Overall one of the best places we have ever been to.
